The program provides meaningful and relevant work experience, professionaldevelopment activities, and offers interns networking opportunities with other interns across theCommonwealth, all while working alongside state government officials. The Team Kentucky Internship Program isdesigned to be a prestigious and competitive program; therefore, interested applicants must complete an onlineapplication and be vetted through an interview process. Those selected for the program will perform valuablework in our state agencies.To be considered for a position in the Team Kentucky Internship Program, candidates must:
- Be enrolled at an accredited Kentucky post-secondary school or other educational institution approved bythe Kentucky Personnel Cabinet.
- Be in good standing with the school with at least a 2.5 grade point average at hire.
About the Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control (ABC)The Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control (ABC) regulates the alcohol industry in Kentucky and is comprisedof the Commissioner's Office, Division of Distilled Spirits, Division of Malt Beverages and the Division ofEnforcement. These areas work together to ensure excellent public service and effective enforcement. TheAlcoholic Beverage Control Board, comprised of the distilled spirits administrator, the malt beverageadministrator, and the agency commissioner, conduct hearings for violators of both alcohol and tobacco laws.The Board and ABC receive support and advice from the Office of Legal Services. The ABC legal team ensuresthat individuals and regulated entities comply with the laws governing alcohol within the Commonwealth.Licensing staff reviews applications for licenses, checking to ensure that each applicant has met all legalrequirements prior to issuing a license. Investigators in the Enforcement Division are strategically locatedthroughout the state to maximize their special emphasis on the enforcement of Kentucky's alcohol laws.Investigators also promote awareness of alcohol and tobacco laws in Kentucky and prevent the use of alcoholand tobacco products by minors.Team Kentucky (ABC) Intern will:
- Research and assist with implementation of legislation passed in the 2025 session
- Assist Records Custodian with record retention and Open Records Requests
- Research and assist with procurement and payment of goods and non-professional services
- Monitor, review, research ABC website to verify data is current and accurate
- Assist with management ofwebsite
- Research and assist with policy and procedures related to the management and administration ofEnforcement Division
- Assist Evidence Custodian with receiving, storing, and maintaining seized evidence (limited assistanceto not break chain of evidence requirements)
- Assist the Vehicle Coordinator in the management and documentation of required maintenance of Departmentassigned vehicles
- Research and assist with policy and procedures related to the Licensing Branch and assist in thelicensing process
TKIP participants will receive additional compensation ($1/hour) for each year that they return to the TKIP, after previously completing the program.What You'll Need to Succeed:
