Summary:

The 3 IMCU Team Leader is responsible for assessing the needs of each patient ranging from adolescent to geriatric and planning the nursing care necessary to meet those needs, including the spiritual, emotional, psychosocial and physiological needs. The Team Leader is then responsible in seeing that the interdisciplinary plan of care is carried out through performance or delegation to subordinate personnel. The Team Leader is supervised by the Director and Unit Manager.

Experience/Education Requirements:

  • BSN required within 4 years of hire, Master's degree in nursing preferred
  • Minimum of 3 years cardiac experience

License or Certification Requirements:

  • Current Illinois RN registration
  • Current CPR & ACLS certification
  • Certification as CCRN within 1 year of hire

Responsibilities:

  • Able to troubleshoot equipment and problems/failures.
  • Acts as a liaison between staff members and physicians.
  • Assumes a patient assignment as needed.
  • Communicates with and informs physician or nursing house supervisor of any information pertaining to patient care.
  • Completes staffing worksheet taking a brief report on patients that are in unit.
  • Consistently aware of all actual/potential problems/conditions.
  • Cooperates with other departments to provide interdisciplinary coordination.
  • Coordinates patient care and unit activities.
  • Ensures that patient assignments are appropriate for patient needs and staff qualifications.
  • Manages environment on the unit.
  • Offers assistance to physicians rounding on the unit.
  • Offers assistance to staff as needed.
  • Participates in quality assessment/improvement activities on unit.
  • Patient rounding with inter-disciplinary care team.
  • Performs daily staffing with nursing office or nursing supervisor.
  • Responsible for checking crash cart seal.
  • Works closely with other units when patient census warrants acceptance of alternate admissions or need for immediate transfers.
  • Satisfactorily complete all required continuing education hours regarding the care of acute stroke patients.

Credentials:

  • CARDIOPULMONARY RESUSCITATION
  • Registered Nurse
  • ACLS
  • CERTIFIED CARDIAC REGISTERED NURSE

Education:

  • BACHELOR SCIENCE NURSING
