JOB SUMMARY, DESCRIPTION & QUALIFICATIONS:Job SummaryThe Technical Assistant, Automotive Technology provides direct assistance and support in the Automotive Technology lab spaces at NTC's Wausau campus. This position will serve as an instructional resource in the provision of learning activities, including lab oversight, student assistance, the preparation of instructional equipment and resources, and support of our Automotive Tool Room. This position will also monitor and maintain existing equipment, set-up and install new equipment, move equipment between lab spaces and support faculty in the set-up and use of equipment.
This is a Grant Funded, Limited Term Employement (LTE) position that is expected to end by June 30, 2026Essential Functions and ResponsibilitiesThe following duties are primarily performed and are essential for this position. Employees are expected to be able to perform each of these job duties satisfactorily and successfully with or without reasonable accommodation.Student Support:Assist the instructors with the setting-up and delivery of lab activities for students. Support the monitoring of student attendance, progress, and use of the lab. Assist students with their use of technology, facilities, and equipment. Proctor tests, quizzes and performance assessments administered in the lab. Assist with remediation of students. Demonstrate proper equipment operation skills to students as needed, as directed by the instructors. Prepare instructional materials for student lab projects. Assist the instructors in monitoring students on operational safety.Technical Support:Assist with the procurement of lab materials and supplies (including pickup and delivery). Coordinate and carry out maintenance and repair requirements for lab equipment. Identify, monitor and set-up lab equipment. Coordinate and carry out the transportation of lab equipment between campuses and to/from partner locations. Assist in the running of the Automotive Tool Room. Monitor, maintain, develop, and improve Automotive Lab and related equipment and spaces. Maintain an inventory of instructional materials and equipment within the lab. Maintain inventories of supplies, tools, and parts for the program and students. Coordinate the identification of program equipment and tools. Participate in in-service training and industrial workshops pertaining to the operation and applications of lab equipment. Maintain proficiency in automotive technology as needed to support our academic and continuing education programs and courses.Program Support:Recommend lab procedural and safety discussions topics to the instructors based on observed student practices in the lab. Work with program instructors to support the reviewing and updating of program curriculum and the integration of new technologies and trends, including development of materials, videos, and lessons. Curricular and Laboratory support of the college initiatives for Transportation 4.0. Assist the instructors with the setting up of major lab activities and creating virtual lessons. Assist in the coordination of work-study student activities as directed by the instructors.
Minimum Qualifications RequiredIn limited circumstances, NTC may consider a combination of education, training, and experience which provides the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the duties of this position.
Education: Associate's Degree (or Equivalent)
- Associate's degree in a technical area related to Automotive, Diesel or similar.
Experience: 3 Years
Additional Experience Information:- Three years' work experience in the Automotive industry.
- Thorough knowledge and understanding of the Automotive industry, including familiarity with current technology.
Preferred qualifications:
- OSHA lift-truck certification.
