Responsibilities**JOB DESCRIPTION**Provides direct research and teaching support at the professional level by taking charge of a segment of larger projects involving research of moderate complexity and/or by working as an independent researcher in specialized, non-routine projects as needed. Provides supervisory support to other technicians, graduate and undergraduate students, rotating medical students and residents in performing research laboratory assignments, which are various and diversified in nature, and in accordance with standard practices and procedures, as well as performs assignments as needed. Candidate should keep abreast of trends in field of interest by studying current research literature, abstracting scientific articles of value in the prosecution of research problems and by attending meetings, institutes, and seminars.**JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES****Experimental preparation**1. Independently operates complex equipment2. Follows approved laboratory protocols for biomedical research, develops and installs laboratory operating procedures.3. Develops and modifies test methods, selects procedures for data collection and handling, and develops computer programs for conversions and statistical treatment of data.4. Follows approved laboratory protocols for non-human primate research.5. Facilitation of getting institutional animal care and use committee approval of new protocols.**Animal Care and training**1. Maintains non-human primate research subjects in accordance with all applicable policies.2. Is aware of animal care protocols and follows these protocols.3. Keeps all appropriate records.4. Is responsible for daily animal care and health of non-human primates, in conjunction with the veterinary staff.5. Helps chair train non-human primates6. Transports non-human primates from cages to experimental apparatus and back.7. Trains non-human primates in oculomotor tasks.**Data Analysis**1. Implements procedures for the collection, management, analysis, summarization and archive of data2. Analyses and evaluates experimental data and interprets results within scope of the study. Assesses the importance of scientific findings in relation to the overall research objectives of the project.3. Prepares written reports on assigned area of research.4. Assists in writing of the principle project report and in the writing of articles for publication.**Maintenance**1. Maintains quality controls associated with lab apparatus2. Identifies and authorizes purchase of needed lab supplies and research materials3. Coordinates service support for maintenance of lab equipment4. Monitors computer based inventories and databases**Supervision**1. Designs and/or collaborates in designing research equipment.2. Evaluates the performance of the research equipment, making and/or recommending correctional design changes or development new approaches for its use.3. Maintains contact with outside research laboratory vendors and technical representatives concerning assigned area of research.4. Serves as laboratory manager by organizing all research activities in this lab to include the directing and gathering of research materials, supplies, equipment apparatus and experimental subjects1. Comprehensive training of laboratory techniques and instrumentation procedures to other technicians, graduate and undergraduate students, rotating medical students and residents involved in the research2. Supervisor of lab technicians and undergraduate students5. Serves as liaison and technical troubleshooter between research investigators as related to project.6. Ensures that health and safety practices are maintained in accordance with University policy and the law.7. Assists faculty researchers, graduate and undergraduate students in the design of research projects and in the preparation of research proposals.8. Orients visitors to the laboratory.**Electrophysiology Experiments**1. Performs eye movement experiments with non-human primates2. Performed neural recording experiments with non-human primates**Other duties as assigned****QUALIFICATIONS****Minimum Education Required**+ Bachelor's degree with major course work in field of assignment**Experience Required**+ 2 years related experience in field of assignment. A year of more of post-baccalaureate academic work in field of assignment or in a related field is desirable; or an equivalent combination of experience, training, and education. Primate research experience desired.**Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required**+ Must exercise skill, judgment, and knowledge of or have the ability to quickly learn the principles and methods of a technical field. Excellent communication skills required. Attention to detail and meticulous ability to maintain records is essential. Should be familiar with Microsoft Office, LabView and MatLab. Availability or limited availability on weekends is desired.+ Computers, animal behavioral and electrophysiological test equipment, motorized computer controlled motion apparatus, equipment for recording eye movements and brainstem neuronal activity, implanted vestibular stimulation device.**Certification Required**+ Candidate must be certified to conduct animal experiments or become certified from the University Committee on Animal resources (UCAR).**How To Apply**All applicants must apply online._EOE Minorities/Females/Protected Veterans/Disabled_**Pay Range**Pay Range: $63,815 - $95,723 Annually_The referenced pay range represents the minimum and maximum compensation for this job.
