The Department of Theatre, Art, and Graphic & Animation Design in the Cook-College of Arts and Sciences invites applications for a full-time, 10-month, Technical Director position for the Theatre Program. The position is to begin Spring 2025 semester.
Primary responsibilities include serving as Technical Director for a main stage season of three to four shows in the theatre program and overseeing various productions in a second venue, Jarman Auditorium. Duties include managing the Scene Shop, supervising work-study and theatre production students, attending design and production meetings and technical rehearsals for theatre productions, and tracking and reporting budget status to the Theatre Program Coordinator, collaborating with the Scenic & Lighting Designer on the execution of the design, supervising set construction with weekend and evening work sessions as needed, overseeing of props, ordering and managing supplies for productions, providing technical support for student productions, maintaining tools and other equipment in the Scene Shop and theatre spaces, and creating and maintaining daily shop operation schedules, working/construction drawings, and production calendar for all department productions.
The successful candidate will also serve as safety officer for the theatre program, which includes assisting with the chemical inventory, ensuring compliance with safe practices and workplace regulations as well as creating, delivering, and documenting safety training for faculty and students in the theatre program.
Job Requirements:
* Bachelors or Masters in Technical Theatre
* Minimum of three years of related, post-graduation work experience in technical direction for professional and/or educational theatre
* Demonstrated professional experience in performing arts events
* Must be able to work at heights and perform occasional heavy lifting
Preferred consideration will be given to applicants with experience with Vectorworks or AutoCAD, MIG and /or TIG welding, wood and metal construction techniques, automated scenery, theatrical engineering, sound, props construction, relevant OSHA protocols and certifications, and theatrical rigging.

This position is a full-time, administrative & professional faculty, exempt position. Salary will be commensurate with credentials and experience. A successful criminal background investigation is required. The selected candidate must complete a Statement of Economic Interests.
