Job DescriptionEDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCEAssociates Degree in Electrical/Electronic/Mechanical Technician program from an accredited school. Two or more years experience in an electrical/electronic/mechanical technician position performing troubleshooting, repair, maintenance and installation of electrical/electronic/mechanical/transit vehicle systems and components. Coordination and performance of transit and auxilliary power system maintenance is preferred. Must be able to read schematics, wiring diagrams and blueprints. Experience may substitute for a degree on a year for year basis.INTERVIEW SELECTION PROCESSThe selection process may include one or more components to demonstrate applicants' knowledge, skills, and abilities in job-related areas. These may include exercises such as practical demonstrations, written communications, oral interviews and/or competency assessment.SUMMARYPerforms routine and preventive maintenance to the overhead contact system (OCS), traction power substations (TPSS), and light rail vehicles. Utilizes standard shop and linemen tools, power tools, chain saws, diagnostic and test equipment, forklifts, special vehicles with lifting platforms/buckets, etc. Maybe required to assist in basic track maintenance tasks such as switch adjustments and drain cleaning. In addition, establishing procedures and practices related to power and support of the operation of the rail system's high voltage traction power system and all related mechanical and electrical equipment. Works in concert with the Maintenance Foreman to ensure that all scheduled preventative maintenance is performed as scheduled. In coordination with the Foreman, assists in prioritizing and planning the upcoming work. Serves as the crew lead over light rail technicians and enforces rules and special instructions to ensure the needed tools are available and that established procedures are followed when performing maintenance on high voltage equipment. Responsible for setting and enforcing safety rules and guidelines for technicians when performing both mechanical and electrical maintenance activities. May serve as a replacement for the Maintenance Foreman when required. This position requires an on-call availability to respond to emergencies, special events, weather related problems or other major incidents if necessary.ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Performs electrical diagnosis; repairs and maintains electrical power supply systems; records data. Reads and interprets electrical schematics and prints and has general knowledge of the lighting, overhead contact system and the traction power substations. Periodically reviews all safety rules and procedures and make adjustments or corrections as needed, including rewriting the entire procedure, if necessary. Assists technicians in performance of routine and preventative maintenance to the overhead contact system, its supporting structures, traction power substations, track structure and track switches. Reports findings as necessary. Oversees and assists in traction power removal by using the 'Lock-Out/Tag-Out' procedure to ensure the safety of repair personnel. Monitors, identifies, and corrects any imminent safety hazards. Will investigate, analyze and initiate recommendations for correcting any such hazard. Will provide emergency service as needed to maintain a safe reliable and efficient service. Serves as the primary liaison between the Office of Light Rail and Georgia Power Company. Performs general facility maintenance on lighting, auxiliary equipment (lifting cranes/jacks), air compressor, sump pump, steam cleaner, wheel true machine, interior and exterior repairs. Responds to accidents, assists with investigations and root cause identification. Assists in emergency OCS sectionalizing and/or actuates alternative power routes during emergencies. Flags motorists and streetcars as required. Performs other duties as assigned.SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIESServes as technical lead for crews performing installation, repair or replacement of all high voltage, vehicle, structural, mechanical or wayside equipment. Supervises and assists technicians assigned to tasks or projects as determined by the Maintenance Foreman. CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONSMust posess an unrestricted Class 2 Electrical License or be able to obtain one within twelve months. Must have a Georgia Class 'B' Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with 'P' (passenger) endorsement or be able to obtain one within 90 days; internal training is provided.
