We conduct this research on a 6,800-acre prairie, 35 miles outside Chicago, a treasure that has been designated a National Environmental Research Park.LOCATED IN LEAD, SOUTH DAKOTAA Lead Technician is sought to join Fermilab's Long-Baseline Neutrino Facility (LBNF) and Deep Underground Neutrino Experiment (DUNE) Project team. The LBNF/DUNE Project is hosted by Fermilab in Batavia, IL, but includes participation from universities and laboratories from around the world. The project includes construction of a beamline and near detector at Fermilab and a large underground detector at the Sanford Underground Research Facility (SURF) in Lead, South Dakota. LBNF/DUNE project will design and construct one of the largest proposed neutrino experiments in the world over the next several years.Summary of Responsibilities:Based on expertise, general experience, and/or academic study, provides on-site support for an area of assignment pertaining to the installation of project components. Lead technicians will provide comprehensive direction to a group of on-site technicians.You Will:Work one mile underground, with rotating shifts, and potential night and weekend work. Shift differential would be paid for the second shift.Operate as the foreman who leads, trains and assists technicians in multidisciplinary teams as assigned. Set goals, assign projects and contribute to performance appraisals for assigned technicians.Assistance with Installation of all infrastructure equipment required for the construction of two neutrino detectors, includes working at heights, network, cabling, detector safety systems, communications, electronics racks, HVAC, etc.Track daily activity and provide comprehensive shift reports.Assist in creating daily and weekly work plans.You are responsible for all detector component movement on the level and within the cleanroom and cryostat. This includes use of small overhead cranes, hoists, mechanical connections, trolleys, winches, forklifts, etc.Abide by and are responsible for performing all duties in accordance with all environmental, health and safety regulations and Laboratory policies, procedures and practices pertinent to this position, including generating Hazard Analysis, and enforcing safety rules and regulations.Perform other duties as assigned.We Are Looking For:Four or more years leading others in a medium to large scale construction environment, preferably in industrial or commercial projects.Strong knowledge in formalized work planning and scheduling.Demonstrated technical and problem-solving skills.Formal industry certifications in one or more; forklift, aerial lift, crane or overhead crane, rigging, welding.Ability to recognize hazardous situations and recommend corrective measures.Good interpersonal, communication skills.Ability to work in a team environment.Excellent written and verbal communications skills to enable effective interaction with project, Fermilab, and stakeholder personnel.Strong analytical skills to identify trends and establish proactive corrective actions.Ability to use MS Office and document management systems.Ability to work independently.Trade specific skills or management experience thereof - Electrical, HVAC, controls and instrumentation, survey, welding, plumbing, ironworking, fabrication, etc.Physical Activity and Work Conditions:Ability to perform physically demanding tasks, including lifting and carrying up to 50 pounds regularly.Prolonged periods of standing, walking, and climbing ladders or scaffolding.Frequent bending, kneeling, and reaching overhead.Ability to work in confined spaces and at various heights.Tolerance for exposure to varying weather conditions, including extreme heat, cold, and precipitation.Capability to wear and operate required personal protective equipment (PPE), including hard hats, safety glasses, gloves, and steel-toed boots.Sufficient visual and manual dexterity to operate tools and equipment safely.Ability to work extended hours and varying shifts, as needed.Ability to work in underground environments, including tunnels and shafts, with limited natural light.Fermilab is an Equal Opportunity Employer and believes a diverse and inclusive environment based on mutual respect is essential to our mission.
