Department Summary

UCLA Mail, Document & Distribution Services (MDDS) is the campus' premier full-service center, offering comprehensive solutions for mail, messenger, document, shipping/receiving, and compressed cylinder gas services. With a dedicated team of 60 onsite employees, MDDS plays a crucial role in supporting the University of California's mission of teaching, research, and public service by delivering high-quality, cost-effective services. By leveraging emerging technologies, including process automation, we strive to meet or exceed our customers' expectations. MDDS is part of Business & Finance Solutions (BFS), a division of UCLA under the Office of the Vice Chancellor & Chief Financial Officer, providing innovative campus-wide solutions to complex financial and business matters, maximizing value to the University community.

Position Summary

For dedicated and motivated applicants, the Technical Project Manager role offers a unique opportunity to gain in-depth knowledge of MDDS business units' operations, immediately make a significant impact across UCLA departments involved in education, healthcare, and research, and prepare for future advancement opportunities within MDDS, focusing on supervision and strategic leadership. Under the general supervision and in collaboration with the Director of MDDS, the Technical Project Manager applies technical project management concepts, frameworks and methods, and relevant policies and procedures to resolve a variety of technical project management issues. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record in successfully managing technical projects of moderate scope from initiation to completion to ensure that all aspects of the project are delivered on time and within budget. The Technical Project Manager plays a critical role in coordinating cross-functional teams, mitigating risks, analyzing data, creating successful workflows, and ensuring the overall success of I.T. projects for multiple work units. Responsibilities include Project Planning and Initiation; Project Execution and Monitoring; Communication and Stakeholder Management; and Quality Assurance. Typical projects include New Equipment Acquisition and Implementation; Technology Service Enhancements and maintenance such as online ordering systems; System Migrations; Software Upgrades and/or Acquisition including implementation and training.

Salary & Compensation

*UCLA provides a full pay range. Actual salary offers consider factors, including budget, prior experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business considerations. Salary offers at the top of the range are not common. Qualifications
  • 5 years Experience with demonstrated knowledge in the principles and practices of IT Project Management. (Required)
  • Proven experience in successful IT Project Management of moderate complexity, preferably in a large University setting or similar environment. (Required)
  • Requires effective communication and organization skills. (Required)
  • Requires basic knowledge of project management principles, theories, and concepts. (Required)
  • Proficiency in financial analysis and budgeting in order to provide project proposals, estimates, reports, and cost control. (Required)
  • Requires ability to assess campus, medical center, or UC Office of the President needs for information technology products and design services to meet those needs. (Required)
  • Working knowledge of technology-related initiatives and an understanding of impact to the organization of such initiatives. (Required)
  • General knowledge in the installation, configuration and troubleshooting of computer systems, networks and peripherals (i.e. printers, modems, routers, firewalls, Wi-Fi repeaters). (Required)
  • General knowledge in the following areas: Microsoft Products, FTP, SFTP processes and software clients, Windows Server Administration, SQL database configuration and management, Scan technologies and Document Management Solutions, Financial systems, the installation, configuration and troubleshooting (Preferred)
  • Demonstrated effective organization and project management skills including directing teams and monitoring progress. (Preferred)
Education, Licenses, Certifications & Personal Affiliations
  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent combination of education and experience. (Required)
  • Project Management certification preferred. (Preferred)
