Job Highlights
* Recommend to current and future customers optimal use of our flame retardants and other plastics additives (especially plasticizers) in their existing products and their new products.
* Create new formulations for customers with LANXESS Polymer Additives (PLA) products to enable enhanced polymer properties and cost savings via efficient processing or alternative products.
* Perform various lab syntheses in the area of polymer chemistry.
* Train sales force and distributors on product capabilities and final uses.
* Develop and maintain updated data packs for existing products (data sheets) and applications.
* Develop new applications for existing products.
* Troubleshoot customer equipment and processes, both on the phone and on site at the customer locations.
* Travel with sales personnel to provide technical information to make and close sales, and develop new sales.
* Write technical papers and give technical presentations at key additive conferences and trade meetings.
* Document customer visits and distribute accordingly.
* Document competitors' products - Understand the pros and cons of our products versus theirs.
Requirements
* Education: PhD in Organic Chemistry, Polymer Science, or related field is required, some industry experience is preferred. Master's degree in Organic Chemistry, Polymer Science, or related field and 10+ years of industry/research experience also considered.
* Significant problem solving skills required in researching and adapting literature and patent knowledge to complex chemical and processing problems relating directly to polymer additives (Flame retardants and Plasticizers) as well as the compounding thereof.
* Excellent communication skills, especially in presenting technical information to both a technical and non-technical audience.
* Should have key knowledge of polymer processing equipment (extruders, reaction injection molders, etc.), performance and physical property testing, and of compounding of flame retardants into various resins.
* Demonstrated proactive safety practices in the laboratory and travel.
