This position is responsible for acquiring circulating print and non-print materials for DCL, as well as, adding records for these items to the OWLSnet database and assigning call numbers. This position also provides public service to Library patrons on a regularly scheduled basis.The Technical Services Acquisitions/Cataloger is an integral part of the DCL Technical Services team; this position works closely with the Head of Technical Services, Technical Services Assistants, Administrative Assistant, and materials selectors. A successful applicant will possess the ability to work independently, strong: communication, data entry, and spreadsheet skills, as well as extreme attention to detail.Providing truthful and accurate written and verbal communication is required. Regular attendance, punctuality, and being prepared to commence work at designated locations, on assigned days, and during scheduled hours is expected. Cross training is required. Reviews and places orders that have been submitted by DCL materials selectors, produces on-order records, and handles correspondence related to purchases.Enters invoices into the OWLSnet database, receives new materials as they arrive at the Library, reports damages and discrepancies to vendors.While adding new item records to the OWLSnet database, compares items to records available in the OWLSnet and OCLC databases; reviews records for accuracy and conveys record requests, updates, or changes to OWLSnet as necessary.Assigns call numbers in accordance with DCL classification practices. Labels and prepares items for the shelf as necessary.Tracks materials budgets and communicates spending to materials selectors.Investigates and recommends library supplies, services, and vendors; works with the Administrative Assistant to set up new vendor for purchasing. Assists selectors with materials management and collection development as necessary. Assists with the creation of departmental documentation as well as policies and procedures related to technical services and/or materials management.Assists with the training and instruction of Technical Services Assistants.General Job FunctionsThe position will require rotating Saturday shifts (approximately every 6-weekends) as well as infrequent travel to all eight Door County Library locations and off-site trainings, meetings, or conferences. It may also include occasionally filling-in for evening, weekday shifts (5:00pm -7:00pm). Training, Experience, Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required Training and Experience
High School diploma or equivalent.Valid driver's license.Preferred Training and Experience
Associate's, or Bachelor's degree.One (1) or more years' experience in a library, office, or related field.Bookkeeping and/or library database maintenance and/or data entry experience.Experience with subject classification, Dewey Decimal classification, MARC, RDA/AACR2, and/or an MLIS with cataloging or metadata coursework.Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required
High spreadsheet proficiency and attention to detail.Competency operating computers, typical office software, printers, copiers, and other typical office equipment is expected; computer experience preferably includes data manipulation, working with pivot tables, library-specific software, or SQL. Ability to read and comprehend; ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.Ability to perform repetitive tasks and perform duties with accuracy and precision.Ability to work independently, instruct, coordinate, problem-solve, troubleshoot, make decisions, and resolve conflicts.Exceptional customer service skills; ability to use intuition, tact, and courtesy in maintaining effective working relationships with Library coworkers, coworkers in other County departments, Library Board Trustees, City Officials, County Supervisors, vendors, and the public. Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously; ability to manage variety and change.
