Job Description:

Purpose: The Technical Services Representative (TSR) will be responsible for ensuring the quality of ready-mix concrete products and providing technical support to customers, sales teams, and plant operations. The TSR will work closely with the technical services manager to ensure the delivery of high-quality concrete that meets customer and regulatory specifications. This role involves conducting field inspections, troubleshooting issues, managing concrete mix designs, and ensuring compliance with quality control standards. Actively promotes a safe work environment within the Technical Services Department that consistently delivers a World Class Experience during the production and delivery of the concrete. Responsible for assuring the quality of the delivered product to all of the customers, equipping employees, and maintaining safe plant site property and equipment

Essential Functions:

Supervisory Functions

* No supervisory responsibilities

Job-Specific Functions

Quality Assurance/Quality Control (QA/QC):

* Conduct on-site inspections of concrete delivery and placement to verify quality standards.

* Perform routine and ad hoc tests on concrete samples, including slump, air content, temperature, and strength tests, per ACI and ASTM standards.

* Monitor the performance of raw materials, including aggregates, cement, admixtures, and water, to ensure they meet specified quality requirements

* Assist in the creation and implementation of mix designs tailored to specific projects and conditions.

* Conduct 4-point curve trials for new mix designs at various slump ranges and monitor performance.

Technical Support:

* Provide on-site troubleshooting for concrete issues such as cracking, discoloration, set-time problems, or non-conformance findings.

* Advise customers and project managers on the appropriate mix selection, placement methods, and curing techniques based on project specifications and environmental conditions.

Compliance and Auditing:

* Support quarterly plant audits by inspecting equipment, reviewing records, and conducting testing procedures to ensure compliance

* Participate in regular quality control and compliance training sessions to maintain knowledge of industry standards and best practices

Documentation and Reporting:

* Prepare detailed technical reports documenting inspections, test results, and findings from job sites.

* Maintain accurate records of mix designs, batch tickets, and quality control data

Other Functions

Customer Relations:

* Build and maintain strong relationships with customers, contractors, and internal stakeholders, acting as the primary point of contact for technical inquiries.

* Provide training and technical support to customers and contractors on proper concrete handling, placement, and finishing techniques.

* Continuous Improvement:

* Assist the technical services manager in developing and implementing best practices for concrete production and quality control.

* Monitor trends and advancements in concrete technology, including new admixtures, cement types, and testing methods, and recommend improvements.

Qualifications

Technical Knowledge:

* Strong understanding of concrete technology, including mix design, material properties, and concrete testing per ASTM and ACI standards

* Knowledge of construction methods and the ability to troubleshoot issues related to concrete placement and performance

Communication and Interpersonal Skills:

* Excellent verbal and written communication skills for preparing reports, conducting training, and interacting with customers and team members.

* Ability to build and maintain professional relationships with clients, contractors, and internal teams.

Problem-Solving Skills:

* Ability to quickly identify and resolve issues related to concrete quality, such as material inconsistencies or equipment malfunctions.

* Strong analytical skills to evaluate test results and determine the best course of action for mix adjustments or corrective measures.

Organizational Skills:

* Strong organizational and time management skills to handle multiple projects, job sites, and customer needs simultaneously.

* Ability to maintain detailed records and ensure compliance with documentation requirements.

Physical Abilities:

* Capability to work in various weather conditions and environments, including construction sites, batching plants, and customer locations.

* Ability to lift and carry equipment and materials needed for testing and inspections (e.g., concrete cylinders, slump cones).

Education/Experience

* Education: Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Material Science, or a related field is preferred. ACI Field Testing Technician Grade I certification or equivalent is required.

* Experience: Minimum of 2 years of experience in the ready-mix concrete industry or a similar role focused on construction materials and quality control.

* Certifications: ACI Concrete Field Testing Technician Grade I and ACI Concrete Laboratory Testing Technician certifications preferred.

* Additional Requirements: Valid driver's license and ability to travel to various job sites and plants as needed.
