Summary:
The main function of a Technical Writer is to write technical materials, such as equipment materials, appendices, or operating and maintenance instructions. A typical technical writer is responsible for organizing, editing and maintaining technical records and files.
Job Responsibilities:
• Organize material and complete writing assignment according to set standards regarding order, clarity, conciseness, style and terminology
• Maintain records and files of work and revisions
• Confer with client to establish technical specifications and to determine subject material to be developed for publication
Responsibilities:
• Develop and author mechanical service information procedures and related technical content for the following commodities:
• Chassis, HVAC, Powertrain, Body, Interior, Exterior.
• Edit existing content as required and assist in the resolution of content ownership globally
• Use Teamcenter and Vis Mockup to create graphics from math data and Arbortext to develop the text of the procedures, crafting and using text strings when applicable.
• Handle publication content by section, subsection and information type.
• Maintain contacts with the Design and Process Technology group for engineering math data availability issue resolution.
• Work with other department functions and suppliers to implement cost reduction, methods improvement, product improvements, math improvements, while supporting all department programs.
• Provides technical direction to support personnel, as required.
• Communicates information to and from internal and external customer organizations.
• Stays abreast of new technology and driven practices.
Qualifications:
• Bachelor's degree in a technical field such as computer science or English, journalism, communications
• 0-2 years experience required
• Experience in in creating documentation for a technical audience
• Excellent writing, editing, and communication skills
• Ability to read some programming code
• Critical thinking and problem-solving skills
