Overview

Our expert staff provide multi-disciplinary solutions to complex energy and environmental issues. Key capabilities include science (chemical and mechanical). We employ a systems perspective that includes, discovery technology development and scale-up as well as economic, regulatory, and market acceptance issues necessary for successful technology commercialization. EP&MD focuses on three mission contributions: Clean Fossil Energy, Electricity Infrastructure, & Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy.

Responsibilities

We are seeking a skilled and adaptable Analytical Chemistry Technician to join our team at PNNL. In this role, you will support multiple directorates by preparing and analyzing samples, learning and applying various techniques such as chromatography, spectroscopy, and titration. A strong attention to detail is essential for conducting experiments, recording data, and analyzing results accurately.

The ideal candidate will possess strong mechanical and laboratory skills, with the ability to troubleshoot technical issues and implement corrective actions. A key part of the role is ensuring adherence to safety protocols and contributing to the enhancement of laboratory safety practices. Collaboration with a diverse team of researchers is vital, as you will actively participate in project meetings and provide technical support. Thorough documentation of experiments, operations, and equipment maintenance is also essential for ensuring detailed records are available for analysis and reporting. Conducts research and development activities including standard technical procedures that range from routine to specialized, under technical supervision. Operates in laboratory workspaces equipped with fume hoods, and with specialized instrumentation in order to conduct research.

This position requires a hands-on approach, a commitment to safety and excellence, and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

* High school diploma/GED and 2 years of relevant experience -OR-

* Technical Institute Graduate (TIG)/relevant AA degree or higher and 1 year of relevant experience

Preferred Qualifications:

* Hands-on experience working in analytical laboratory or performing wet chemistry work in research environment.

* Capability to perform detailed-oriented tasks.

* Familiarity with performing prescriptive stepwise actions, documenting those actions, and recording generated data.

* Some experience with quality assurance standards desired.

* Ability to use the Microsoft suite of software specifically including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Teams.

* Flexibility to work on diverse tasks and ability to learn new methods and new computer/analytical software.

* Established organization and time management skills.

* Excellent communication skills.

* Ability to coordinate activities with multiple staff/organizations.

* Ability to clearly communicate needs and expectations to others.

* Desire to learn and a questioning attitude.

* Ability to adhere to laboratory safety procedures.

Hazardous Working Conditions/Environment

Must be comfortable working with hazardous chemicals daily.

Additional Information

Individual is anticipated to operate onsite (Richland, WA campus) 5 days a week.

To obtain this credential, new employees must successfully complete and pass a Federal Tier 1 background check investigation. This includes marijuana and cannabis derivatives, which are still considered illegal under federal law, regardless of state laws.
