DescriptionBASIC JOB SUMMARY: The overall purpose of the Technician I is to install and repair voice, data, broadband, video, and security systems. Job requires familiarity with industry concepts, practices, and procedures. Performs a variety of tasks. Relies on experience, judgment, and pre-established guidelines to perform the functions of the job. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:The essential job functions and duties described below may not be the only requirements of the position. It may be necessary to follow other instructions or perform other related duties required by the company.
- Install company products and services including voice, data, broadband, and SIP systems
- Troubleshoot and resolve/repair customer issues associated with company products and services including voice, data, broadband, SIP and security systems
- Assess where trouble is located including traveling by vehicle (requiring a valid driver's license) to customer facility and checking wiring from cable to plant, pole to facility, and building to equipment. May require a commercial driver's license
- Operate Facilities Management (FM) system including updating and closing trouble tickets and service orders
- Operate test equipment to test circuits and condition/characterize copper circuits and store test results in customer folders in FM system
- Requires high level of customer contact to ensure customer satisfaction
- May install communications and data equipment, related systems, power panels, concrete pads, and ground fields that are associated with installation
- May install from staking sheets the buried distribution cable and pedestals. May cut overall service to old plant and new plant resources
- May install and maintain transport and special service circuits. Includes but not limited to T-1's and HDSL, utilizing copper and or fiber
- May be responsible for the emergency repairs of all fiber optic cables in the system including terminating fiber drops into Optical Network Terminal's (ONT), test, and turning up services
- Follow Electronic Industries Alliance (EIA) / Telecommunications Industry Association (TIA) 586A guidelines for inside telephone and data wiring
- Responsible for the adherence to all standard operating procedures to promote safety of all employees
- May be responsible for operating safely and efficiently equipment including but not limited to vehicles: cable plow, trencher, backhoe, and aerial bucket trucks
RequirementsJob Qualifications:Education/Experience - High school diploma, GED is required, or equivalent experience and approximately two (2) years' experience, with on-the-job training.Knowledge/Skills/Abilities - Requires an understanding of communication equipment construction, installation, and repair with written and verbal communication skills.
