This Technician I position will support our engineering design team with the development of transportation safety and efficiency improvements across the state of Kansas on DOT, County, and City projects.Kirkham Michael provides integrated engineering and construction services to a wide variety of public and private clients. We are a dynamic firm focused on our clients' success, and we fulfill project and program needs from initial concept through implementation with innovative, yet practical solutions.This entry-level position Technician I will coordinate right-of-way acquisition, coordinate utility relocations, and provide technical drafting and design support for assigned transportation projects under general supervision. This is a full-time position for the Ellsworth, Cheney, Salina, Hays or Garden City, Kansas office.   • Leads the right-of-way acquisition process for projects designed by our engineering team.
  • Coordinates with landowners, title companies, appraisers, clients, surveyors and project managers during the right-of-way acquisition process.
  • Understands the Uniform Act for Real Property Acquisition and ensures the process is followed.
  • Prepares right-of-way drawings and exhibits, acquisition agreements, deeds, plats, sketches or other documents necessary to acquire real property.
  • Coordinates with utility companies and engineering staff to relocate utilities in conflict with transportation projects.
  • Performs work as assigned from sketches, verbal instructions, and notes.
  • Prepares engineering drawings from rough sketches or from general engineering and design information (verbal instructions and notes).
  • Revises or changes drawings, traces and/or copies existing drawings and completes moderate calculations with specific instructions.
  • Coordinates with clients and regulatory agencies to establish project scope, schedule, and budgets as related to right-of-way acquisition.
Qualifications
  • High School diploma or GED equivalent
  • Ability to work independently or with minimal instruction.
  • Can interpret basic design criteria.
  • Understands and can follow company or client standard CADD procedures for element attributes and standard drawing procedures for sheet layout.
  • Capacity to maintain schedules and offer progress reports.
  • Previous experience researching or preparing legal documents, acquiring real property, and/or coordinating utility relocations is preferred but not required.
