The Cornell University College of Veterinary Medicine seeks a Technician III to join the Clinical Sciences department in support of the Equine Performance Clinic. The mission of the Equine Performance Clinic is to provide clinical service to equine patients and to perform research into problems affecting the horse as an athlete. Horses from throughout the northeastern United States are referred to this facility for evaluation and diagnosis of performance limiting disorders. The treadmill facility, as the focus for exercise related research, has enabled both basic and clinical scientists to contribute to the understanding of exercise physiology and the equine athlete.
The job responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
* Scheduling and record-keeping of treadmill use and maintenance, provide instruction to users to ensure safe treadmill operation.
* Coordinate and order laboratory supplies, order and maintain equipment and supplies.
* Daily care of experimental animals including bandaging, physical examination, and administration of drugs (excluding feeding and cleaning stall).
* Conditioning of experimental animals for exercising on the treadmill.
* Provide high level technical support to faculty engaged in a variety of large animal teaching and research activities, including endoscopy, inserting jugular and arterial catheters
* Coordinate the large animal surgery and medicine courses, including budget management and scheduling
Employees working with animals must receive the pre-exposure rabies prophylaxis vaccination series prior to or immediately after hire, which will be paid for by the department.
Required Qualifications
* Associate's degree with up to 2 years of relevant experience or equivalent.
* Must be highly proficient in equine handling.
* Possess the technical knowledge and skills necessary to work independently, troubleshoot problems, and manage the lab.
* Excellent organization, attention to detail and meticulous lab technique and data entry
* Computer proficiency and strong communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
* NYS LVT license

Important Details about the Position
* This is an onsite position located in Ithaca, NY.
* This is a full-time two-year term position with potential for extension contingent upon funding and performance.
* We are unable to provide Visa sponsorship, now or in the future, for this position.
* Relocation assistance will not be provided for this position.
While the regular business hours are 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, the specific schedule may change to meet the needs of the business, requiring employees to work early mornings, evenings, weekends and University holidays and scheduled breaks.
