Overview:
Responsible for assisting all professional and licensed personnel in direct and indirect care delivery.
Responsibilities:
- Provides assistance to patients with activities of daily living.
- Prepares examination rooms, ensuring proper supplies and equipment are available.
- Assists health care team in patient examinations and treatments.
- Assists collecting data such as height, weight, vital signs, intake and output and records data collected.
- Makes patient care rounds on the unit every hour or as directed documenting patients whereabouts and condition/status as ordered. Reports variances to the RN/charge nurse.
- Obtains specimens, print labels for and transports same to laboratory.
- Processes EKG treatments, including maintenance of equipment, preparation of patient, performing EKG and follow-up documentation and processing of EKG.
- Completes intake and output by emptying collection bags/items. Documents same on I&O record or medical record forms.
- Transport patients, supplies and equipment.
- Reports repair needs of equipment or in patients environment to AHN/Nurse Manager.
- Provides unit and patient care areas with supplies and equipment.
- Assists in admission, discharge, and transfer of patients.
- Provides care delivery to patients including bathing, feeding, assisting with ambulation and transfers to stretchers, chairs, etc., turning and positioning of patients as assigned every 2 hours or as otherwise directed; etc.
- Reports change in patients behavior, physical condition or patient issues to the RN/AHN immediately.
- Escorts patients off the premises as directed.
- Secures patient property and valuables and documents the same on the patient property form.
- Provides 1:1 observation for patient safety as assigned and as per policy. Documents as per standard on observation flow sheets.
- Adheres to time and attendance policies, and dress code including ID Badge.
- Demonstrates the ability to interact positively with patient visitors and co-workers.
- Maintains patient confidentiality.
- Communicates with other nursing personnel.
- Adheres to IMCs Infection Control Policies: Practices personal hygiene; hand washing.
- Reports any possible infection control issues to infection control dept. or Nurse Manager
- Attends and participates in nursing staff meeting.
- Works collaboratively with other members of the healthcare team.
- Performs other duties as required.
Qualifications:
Education:
- High school diploma, GED or equivalent experience.
Experience:
- A minimum of six (6) months of practical experience.
Knowledge and Skills:
- Ability to communicate in English, both verbally and in writing.
- Basic computer knowledge.
Licenses, Certifications:
- Medical Assistant or Patient Care Technician with EKG Certification, and Phlebotomy Certification required.
Physical Demands:
- Involves walking, sitting, talking, listening, lifting and bending.
- Must be able to lift, and turn patients - repeatedly.
- May include some repetitive motions.
