The SDSU Division of Research and Innovation is seeking a dedicated individual to support the Technology Transfer Office (TTO).Key Responsibilities:
  • Financial Management: Oversee and streamline the TTO's financial processes. Distributes royalties to inventors, authors and co-owners of intellectual property according to SDSU policies and relevant agreements. Processes payments to law firms and vendors. Creates and runs reports to support TTO strategic decision making, budget tracking and forecasting for outside counsel and other related expenses.
  • Invention Reporting: Manages the reporting inventions to sponsors using i-Edison and other processes as required by sponsor agreements and the Bayh-Dole Regulations.
  • Operational Oversight: Provide general operational support to keep the TTO running smoothly, to include occasional event support.
  • Database Management: Populates, organizes, monitors and maintains the TTO database for all intellectual property and appropriate information related to agreement maintenance.Why You'll Love Working with Us:

    • This is a full-time (1.0 time-base), benefits eligible permanent/probationary position.
    • This position is designated exempt under FLSA and is not eligible for overtime compensation.
    • Standard SDSU work hours are Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., but may vary based on operational needs.
    • The individual hired into this role will work on campus at SDSU in San Diego.Department SummarySDSU generates $230 million per year in research grants over all disciplines. The Technology Transfer Office (TTO) has been operating for 24 years for the purpose of protecting and commercializing intellectual property developed by SDSU faculty and staff. The TTO provides expertise to all of campus for intellectual property issues while remaining focused on its goal of commercializing research-based intellectual property for public benefit.Education and ExperienceEntry to this classification requires general knowledge and skills in the applicable administrative and/or program field with a foundational knowledge of public administration principles, practices, and methods. This foundation would normally be obtained through a bachelor's degree and/or equivalent training and administrative work experience involving study, analysis, and/or evaluation leading to the development or improvement of administrative policies, procedures, practices, or programs.Key Qualifications
      • NOTE: U.S. person status is required for this position in order to comply with the Arms Export Control and Export Administration Act. U.S. persons are U.S. citizens, legal permanent residents as defined by 8 U.S.C. 1101(a)(20) or protected individuals as defined by 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3).
      • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field is preferred.
      • Minimum of four years of work experience demonstrating the ability to seamlessly manage nuanced business processes is preferred.
      • Two years of experience or more of experience in a department responsible for intellectual property commercialization at a university or research institution is preferred.
      • Working knowledge of SDSU's intellectual property policies concerning royalty distribution.
      • Experience using intellectual property databases such as Sophia by Wellspring or Minuet by Inteum.
      • Completed formal training in the management of invention reporting requirements for federal government contractors under the Bayh-Dole Regulations is preferred.Compensation and BenefitsStarting salary upon appointment is not expected to exceed $5,200 per month.Salary placement is determined by the education, experience, and qualifications the candidate brings to the position, internal equity, and the hiring department's fiscal resources.San Diego State University offers a rich benefits package that constitutes a major portion of total compensation.Supplemental InformationInitial review of the required application materials, including cover letters and resumes, will begin on December 30, 2024.
