Functions and Responsibilities
Job Summary
Under the supervision of the Associate Director of Telecommunication Services or designee, the Telecommunications Support Specialist is responsible for supporting and maintaining voice and data communication systems.
Supervisory Role
Oral and written instructions are received from the Associate Director of Telecommunication Services or designee. The Telecommunications Support Specialist may supervise student workers.
Duties & Responsibilities
1. Maintain and support the PBX telephone system.
2. Respond promptly to problems or questions regarding telecommunications.
3. Install, arrange, and maintain telecommunications equipment, cabling and associated hardware.
4. Test installed telephone systems, troubleshoot phone equipment failures and service issues.
5. Initiate the dispatch of appropriate repair personnel.
6. Maintain system logs and inventory records.
7. Attend and participate in professional training seminars or workshops, as directed.
8. Maintain strict confidentiality and security of student and staff records.
9. Prepare routine, special and ancillary reports as required.
10. Perform other related duties as required.
Physical Requirements Additional Requirements
Minimum Qualifications
Experience (number of years), Knowledge and/or Abilities
1. Associate's degree or equivalent technical certifications
2. Demonstrated experience in computer repair, troubleshooting and networking.
3. Excellent interpersonal skills.
4. Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing.
5. Ability to work in a multi-cultural environment.
Education Requirements Associate's Degree Licenses and Certifications (including e.g., CPR, first aid, driver's license, etc.)
Preferred Qualifications
Experience (number of years), Knowledge and/or Abilities
1. Associate's degree in Computer Science or related area.
2. One year experience with PBX telephone systems.
3. Self-initiator with the ability to independently manage projects.
