Salary: $13.90 Hourly Location : Coos Bay, OR Job Type: Temporary Job Number: 2024-00006 Department: Bookstore Division: Administrative Services/CFO Opening Date: 07/18/2024 Closing Date: Continuous FLSA: Non-Exempt Bargaining Unit: NA Primary Purpose Perform a variety of duties in support of the Campus Store to help ensure that all work is completed timely and efficiently. This includes, but is not limited to upholding excellent customer service, cashiering, stocking, cleaning, assist with start-of-term course material rush end-of-term buyback, and physical inventory. This is an on call temporary position for no more than 520 hours per fiscal year. Schedule will vary depending on peak business demands and need for coverage. Description of Essential FunctionsCampus Store Services (50% of Time)
  • Assist as cashier for the bookstore; includes reconciling the cash drawers and balancing daily receipts, preparing the reconciliation and deposit. Alert supervisor of major errors.
  • Assist with daily sales operation in the bookstore, includes keeping the shelves and sales floor well stocked, maintained, and merchandised.
  • Assist with start-of-term rush, end-of-term buyback, and inventory in the bookstore.
  • Receive and prioritize incoming calls to the bookstore. Assist callers, directing to the appropriate person, or take and relay messages.
  • Customer Service (50% of Time)
  • Provide excellent customer service to all students and parents coming from a variety of different backgrounds, such as age, ethnicity, and social economics regarding financial aid, course material exchanges/refunds, and cashiering processes as well as other College processes to ensure that all students receive complete and accurate information.
  • Conduct cash, check, and/or department charging transactions. Provide receipts upon request.
  • Assists customers in obtaining course schedule, locate and purchase course materials based of their course schedule.
  • Performs Other Duties and Special Projects as Required/Assigned Required Knowledge, Skills and AbilitiesREQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: High School diploma or GED/equivalent. One (1) year of experience in a front-line environment with an emphasis on customer service, computer operations, and conflict resolution.     • Ability to effectively communicate in English with others both orally and in written form, which includes the ability to restate at various language levels, to simplify, and to use demonstrations which relate to previous knowledge and concrete experience.
    • Ability to work effectively and sensitively with individuals of diverse cultural backgrounds and perspectives, and abilities.
    • Ability to consistently convey a pleasant and helpful attitude by using excellent interpersonal and communication skills to control sometimes stressful and emotional situations. Requires sufficient communication and human relations skills to resolve complaints/issues, defuse anger, and gain cooperation.
    • Ability to work early morning and/or late evening hours as needed.
    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Experience working in retail or other customer service orientated position. College coursework, certificate, or degree strongly preferred.
