Enforces the provisions of the Code of Virginia compulsory attendance law in accordance with School Board policy and procedures. Position monitors student attendance referrals and student's attendance. Serves as a team member to develop effective intervention strategies to improve regular school attendance. - Works in compliance with Code of Virginia, school board policy, Virginia Department of Education policy and administrative regulations regarding school attendance matters.
- Assists in scheduling, developing, implementing and providing necessary data for Attendance Compliance Plans and School Conference meetings in accordance with timelines specified in the Code of Virginia and School Board Policy requirements.
- Collaborates with school social workers, school psychologists, school counselors, administrators, and other relevant school support personnel, to effectively support students and families regarding attendance.
- Investigates reports of students not enrolled in school.
- Conducts home visits with parents and students for the purpose of checking on truant students and gaining parental support for students' compliance in attending school.
- Connects students and families to community and school-based services and resources as needed
- Communicate events impacting individual student attendance to relevant school staff.
- Daily phone calls with families of students who are absent from school.
- Referral to community services when necessary.
- Provide check-in and check-out services to students to support Tier 1 interventions.
- Attend monthly attendance meetings with school staff.
- Plans, organizes, and facilitates attendance meetings and maintains records as directed by the principal.
- Collaboratively develops, implements, and monitors the attendance program to improve student attendance.
- Performs other duties as assigned by the administration in accordance with the school division's policies and practices.
Qualifications: KSA's, EducationKNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:General knowledge of compulsory attendance statutes of Virginia; computers, software and other relevant technology.Ability to: foster relationships with families; maintain an interest in the positive improvement and development of children, adolescents; maintain proper discipline; establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff and students.Must have excellent written and oral communication skills.EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:Required:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Valid Virginia driver's license
- Must be willing and able to use personal vehicle as needed to make home visits and meet with stakeholders outside of school as needed
- Willing to work a flexible schedule
Preferred:
- Bachelor's Degree from an accredited institution in education, social work, behavioral science, criminal justice, or a related field
- Experience working with truancy reduction, dropout prevention, and student attendance programs.
