Temporary Education Manager: Full Time Position SummaryGrowNYC Education cultivates agency among city communities and residents to understand how to access and actively participate in city services, like curbside composting. GrowNYC Education also delivers educational programming across several program areas to a wide range of city residents in all five boroughs. Reporting to the Education Director, the Education Manager will work to improve our citywide effort of increasing curbside composting participation to increase the city's food scraps waste diversion rates. The Education Manager will support a team of 5 Education Coordinators while helping a small number of buildings enroll in the city's municipal curbside composting program. This position is a hybrid field and office-based position requiring an intermediate level of experience supporting direct reports, as well as extensive experience in recycling/composting education and waste operations support for New York City residents.RequirementsEducation Manager Responsibilities (Including but are not limited to): Staff Management
  • Manage a staff of approximately 5 Education Coordinators, functioning as their main point of contact for program delivery best practices, troubleshooting, material needs and completion of reporting tasks.
  • Work with the Director on designing and delivering ongoing training to the Education outreach staff.
  • Create workflows that allow the outreach team to remain on track for key program benchmarks, data collection and reporting.
  • Track work schedules and performance of assigned outreach team.
  • Provide appropriate and relevant feedback to members of assigned outreach team to strengthen their performance and professional wellbeing.
  • Conduct site visits with Coordinators for training and support as needed.
  • Conduct weekly check-in with outreach staff both as a team and 1:1 providing relevant feedback aimed at strengthening the team's performance
  • Collaborate with Director and HR Dept in recruiting, hiring, training and disciplinary processes
  • Collaborate with the Payroll & Onboarding Specialist to onboard new employees to the program
Administrative & Reporting
  • Work with the Administrative Coordinator, Governments Grants Specialist, and Accounting Assistant to prepare and submit data and metrics for reporting to partner agencies
  • Track and compile data collected from outreach team and produce reports that detail any trends of program implementation
  • Based on data collected and reports, evaluate program implementation with Director to determine program delivery efficacy and implement necessary adjustments
  • Prepare periodic reports for assigned locations on progress to date, next steps and goals for the future
  • Timely completion of monthly metrics and reports from the outreach team including site visits, timesheets, outreach
Education & Engagement The manager will do the following in their assigned locations as well as support outreach staff to:
  • Facilitate training for city residents on composting and waste diversion.
  • Lead educational opportunities using existing GrowNYC educational materials or vetted external materials with focus on compost and waste sorting
  • Cultivate waste sorting and composting competence by empowering city residents to effectively use the municipal composting service.
  • Establish and implement applicable methods for promoting waste and sustainability communications to NYC's building and home residents.
Outreach & Communications
  • Ensure all key stakeholders are informed of the Curbside Composting services available to them, the requirements by NYC's recycling laws and mandates to participate, and provide responsive resources to facilitate their active participation.
  • Establish internal and external communication channels and community networks that foster behavior change
  • Partner with governmental and non-governmental organizations to create and distribute resources and generate citywide support for food education.
  • Share missed collection and materials disposal protocols and escalate to relevant partners with necessary
  • Ensure residents know how to acquire and set up the appropriate waste systems in order to successfully participate in Curbside Composting.
All Programs
  • Provide relevant and related to support education programs
  • Collaborate with education staff to envision and enact new ways of reaching overarching program goals and improve efficacy of existing program models
Qualifications
  • 1-3 Years of experience managing others and Education programs
  • Comfortable with public speaking, both virtually and in-person
  • Possesses skillset that includes personal composure, decisiveness, ability to develop others, project management, safety management, planning & organizing, conflict management, team building, managing performance, and proficiency in Google Suite.
  • Passionate about composting, recycling, and waste reduction, with a desire to help others learn and practice sustainable behaviors
  • Proven ability and desire to collaborate with diverse groups of NYC residents and staff from diverse backgrounds in terms of race, ethnicity, gender, including trans* and nonbinary, sexual orientation, ability, class and religion
  • Strong oral and written communications skills, including experience with public speaking and group facilitation
  • Highly organized with the ability to meet multiple deadlines and prioritize responsibilities
  • Team player who can also self-motivate and work independently outside of the office
  • Valid NYS State Drivers License
Preferred Qualifications
  • Second language skills are idea, Spanish preferred but not required
  • Comfortable with public speaking, both virtually and in-person
Physical RequirementsProgramming takes place citywide, often requiring travel to and from program sites, long-hours on your feet, and the ability to lift and carry materials necessary for programming. The ability to lift and carry supplies up to 50lbs and to operate a motor vehicle.ScheduleThis position is full-time (35-40 hours per week), Monday-Friday, field-based position for approximately 60% of the time with some work from home and in-office time as needed. Occasional evening/weekend hours may be required with advance notice. CompensationThis position is full time and non-exempt. The salary is $70,000-$75,000 per year and includes full benefits upon meeting the waiting period. (medical, dental, vision, life insurance, long-term disability, incentive savings plan, paid time off, Public Service Loan Forgiveness available to employees) Where travel throughout the city is an essential component of job duties, a metrocard will be provided.
