Job Description:

The City of Seattle's Department of Finance and Administrative Services (FAS) is seeking motivated and reliable team players to fill two temporary Janitor positions within the Facility Operations Division.

Janitors play an important role on a small team who work together to keep City Hall and the surrounding areas clean and safe for employees and the public. Daily duties involve indoor and outdoor cleaning of high use public areas with exposure to hazardous substances and interaction with homeless individuals.

This recruitment is for two temporary assignments, one night shift and one day shift. Night shift work hours are 4pm 12:30am and day shift work hours are 6am-2:30pm, both are Monday-Friday. The expected duration of these assignments is through 12/31/24.

ABOUT US

The 450-plus employees of FAS span across 10 divisions and work behind-the-scenes providing critical functions, like managing 120 City facilities-including police and fire stations-coordinating logistics and emergency management and making sure minority-owned businesses can equitably compete for City contracts. * Cleans restrooms, facilities, and offices in assigned buildings and building areas.

* Gathers and disposes of trash and wastes; replenishes restroom supplies; washes walls and windows, dusts furniture, polishes metal work.

* Collects and recycles paper to reduce disposal costs; monitors volume, checks for contaminants and initiates removal or regrading.

* Cleans lighting fixtures, windows, windowsills, screens, tops of windows, doors frames, and other high areas.

* Cleans, waxes and polishes floors. Operates mechanical cleaners, polishers or other specialized floor care equipment.

* Assists in moving furniture and other objects on occasional basis.

* Sweeps outside areas and sidewalks and removes trash.

* Performs basic maintenance on equipment.

* Reports evidence of damage and vandalism.

* Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Work Requirements:

* Requires routine exposure to and handling of toxic/hazardous substances, including blood, bodily fluids, needles, etc.

* Required to stand, walk, or bend for extended periods of time

* Required to lift objects weighing 50 pounds or less

* Required to work outdoors in all types of weather

* Required to work on ladders/scaffolding above ground level

Desired Qualifications:

At least one year of experience working as a janitor

Janitorial experience in a public facility

Ability to work well independently and as part of a diverse team

Prior floor care experienceWork Environment

This position requires full-time on site work.

Additional Information:

This position is classified as Janitor-FAS/CL and is eligible for overtime. The full range for this step-progression classification is $25.94 - $27.94 per hour. Under the City's Personnel Rules, all non-benefitted temporary assignments begin compensation at step 1. Employees receive premium pay in lieu of benefits for the first 1,040 hours of the assignment; once benefit eligible, premium pay ends and salary advances to step 2 of the range.
