OverviewTitle: Job & Internship CoordinatorReports To: DIRECTOR, SOUTH BROOKLYN COMMUNITY HIGH SCHOOLLocation: 173 Conover St, Brooklyn, NY 11231Hours: 35 Hours/Week; Non-ExemptSchedule: Monday - Friday, 8am to 4pm August 2024 - December 2024 (This is a Temporary position providing Maternity Leave Coverage)Salary: $50,000k - $55,000k (Please note that this salary is per year. This is a Temporary Position for a few months)JOB SUMMARY: Provides assessment of students' vocational/employment needs and work readiness. Develops appropriate internship and employment opportunities through ongoing outreach and contact with employers. Works with school staff to provide students with educational and career resources, support and guidance. Develops and manages internships in sectors that meet students' interestsMAJOR DUTIES:
  • Identify, develop and utilize tools appropriate to provide accurate assessment of students' work readiness and career interests and to develop ideas for individually tailored internship placements.
  • Provide continuous feedback and resources to meet the individual needs of students.
  • Ensure timely completion of statistical, narrative, and record keeping data entry and paperwork. Track, evaluate, and report on multiple aspects of program operations.
  • Develop internships in a diverse range of employment fields that match students' interests, skills, maturity levels, and experience.
  • Match, orient and place students into placements developed.
  • Provide guidance to employers on maximizing internship experiences by working effectively with adolescents/young adults.
  • Engage students' families so to support positive outcomes for the student.
  • Provide support to employers and students while internship placements are active in the form of phone calls, meetings and site visits, using feedback obtained from employers, students and personal observation.
  • Facilitate workshops or liaison with Career Specialist to ensure student exposure to topics related to job and career readiness and exploration skills/competency development (i.e., resume writing, interviewing skills, completing job applications)
  • Develop curriculum and facilitate weekly seminar groups for students in internship placements with a focus on building students' skills in education and career development.
  • Identify and develop linkages to on the job training programs and other related resources.
  • Assist students' post-internship with future employment and provide educational and career development counseling and support.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • Experience working with adolescents/young adults in educational/employment or vocational fields required, experience developing internships preferred.
  • Ability to work independently and travel locally to work sites on a regular basis.
  • Strong group facilitation skills required.
  • Ability to work with diverse staff and students and network with diverse employer constituents.
  • Solid organizational skills and excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Ability to work evenings and occasional weekends.
  • Must have a commitment to work from a strength based and/or youth development perspective.
  • Must be a team player.
