The OverviewDo you enjoy working outdoors on the City's beautiful marina? This may be the opportunity for you! The Marina Dock Assistant works on the City's Historic Waterfront at the City Marina. The City Marina provides for recreational and commercial boating operations while receiving more than 2,000,000 visitors annually. The Marina Dock Assistant performs journey-level tasks of more than ordinary difficulty and must be able to perform heavy physical labor safely and efficiently. This position works under the immediate supervision of a lead worker who lays out the details of each specific assignment and constantly checks the work in process and upon completion; or performs routine tasks independently after initial instruction. This position performs duties under the general supervision of the Dock Master and Assistant Dock Master. What Should You BringYour passion and excitement for working with people will be critical in this role. You will ensure that all Marina activities are fun, safe and orderly. To best serve in in this position, you should have good organizational skills and have a general knowledge of computers. You must also demonstrate an ability to work effectively in a group setting and be able to provide exceptional customer service to everyone you encounter. Your willingness to assist patrons in securing their boats on the dock and pick up debris in the area. You must have flexibility working a schedule that may include Monday through Friday from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. and weekends from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. as needed. The Opportunity
- Assist with Docking of vessels.
- Be responsive, professional, courteous, and accountable in all interactions.
- Corresponds with supervisors, co-workers and citizens in a positive and professional manner;
- Ensures all safety precautions and guidelines are followed;
- Manage building operation during events and complete administrative paperwork;
- Manages and prioritizes multiple tasks and assignments;
- Participates in staff meetings, in-service trainings, sessions, and workshops;
- Perform operational functions such as responding to inquiries, responding to customer service inquiries, and record keeping;
- Plan, develop and implement structured enrichment and group activities;
- Provide debris removal; staging of debris and winter weather clean-up
- Performs related work as required.

The City of Alexandria Department of Recreation, Parks and Cultural Activities received national accreditation from the Commission for Accreditation of Park and Recreation Agencies (CAPRA).
