DescriptionTemporary Legacy Giving Assistant New York Public Radio is seeking a dedicated and organized Legacy Giving Assistant to support our Centennial efforts. In this 3-month temporary full time position you will have an opportunity to play an integral role on New York Public Radio (NYPR)'s Legacy Giving team. Reporting to the Director of Legacy Giving & Associate General Counsel, the Legacy Assistant will assist with general administrative support including filing & recordkeeping, estate administration, assisting in the marketing of legacy giving, and helping to steward calls from Estates and/or existing Listeners Legacy Circle members who have already included NYPR in their estate plans.Primary Responsibilities
  • Serves as the primary point of contact for Legacy Circle members and assists with general inquiries to the Legacy Giving line from donors, attorneys or financial advisors as needed.
  • Work closely and collaboratively with the Director of Legacy Giving & Associate General Counsel, as well as the staff of NYPR's Development, Membership, Finance and Legal Departments.
  • Organize and maintain a file system containing sensitive information/documents and correspondence from estates, life-income planned gifts and other relevant records for retention.
  • Ensure database integrity by updating donor/prospect records for all Legacy members in SalesForce (Constituent Relationship Management).
  • Manages all steps in the gift coding process for Legacy gifts: identify the bequest (IRA donations are handled by other revenue teams depending on the gift level); provide accurate codes to Fundraising Operations; create, manage, and update opportunities in Salesforce;
  • Coordinates all Legacy communications, in partnership with the Development Assistant, Major Gifts. Create and send acknowledgements; and ensure all data and reports related to Legacy giving are up-to-date so that Finance, Fundraising Operations, and Development are all aligned on progress towards fiscal-year goals.
  • Draft correspondence to attorneys and other estate officials as directed and update the estates pipeline and other reports.
  • Participate in the planning and implementation of donor events as needed.
  • Assist with the development and maintenance of Legacy Giving program marketing.
  • Responsible for remaining y informed on fundraising techniques and best practices to continually improve knowledge and skills.
  • Undertake additional special projects as needed.
Qualifications
  • At least 1-2 years of experience in providing administrative or operational support. Internships or work study programs count!
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel (including pivot tables), PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Adept with operational systems and tools.
  • General understanding of how fundraising databases function and interest/aptitude in learning CRM systems. Knowledge of Salesforce preferred.
  • Interest and willingness to learn legacy giving and estate work.
  • Professional decorum and ability to preserve confidential information.
  • Meticulous attention to detail.
  • Interest in interacting and collaborating with a variety of stakeholders
  • Exceptional organization and time management skills.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Excellent collaborator with demonstrated ability to meet goals and deadlines.
  • Ability to effectively problem-solve as issues arise within scope of work.
  • Comfortable working proactively as well as part of a collaborative team.
  • Availability to work occasional evenings or weekends for events.
  • Interest in current events and news related to journalism, business, finance, philanthropy, the arts, etc.
Additional InformationThis is a 3-month temporary full-time non-exempt role with a rate of 55-60K at 35 hours per week plus a full benefits package. Compensation offered within this range is determined by skills, experience and organizational pay equity. New York Public Radio offers excellent medical, dental, and vision insurance, vacation, and sick time as well as inclusive family leave. This role is currently operating in a hybrid capacity, with the ability to sometimes work from home. However, this position is part of the NYC staff and will be expected to work from the NYC office on specified days with regularity.
