- Teach a fixed schedule of 5 classes integrated with classroom curriculum and aligned with the Standards for the 21st Century Learner as outlined by the American Association of School Librarians and the Common Core State Standards.
- Teaching information literacy and research techniques, including strategies for locating, accessing, evaluating, and using information effectively.
- Promote literacy and reading enjoyment through book talking, read-alouds, reading incentive programs, displays, and other interactive activities both in and out of the library.
- Collaborates with teachers on specific projects / curricular units.
- Serve as a resource for teachers, providing materials and ideas for curriculum.
- Supervise and maintain ongoing daily operations and maintenance of the school library media center.
- Be responsible for maintaining a catalog of materials and records of circulation of items to students and staff.
- Meet with instructional planning teams and/or individual teachers to assess reading and informational needs of students required by the curriculum.
- Through collaboration with school leadership and teaching staff, work for the continued successful development of the school library program.
- Be an advocate for literacy and display a strong commitment to lifelong learning and professional development.
- Create a welcoming and dynamic environment that will encourage students and teachers to take full advantage of the library media center and its resources.

Job Requirements:
- Should be an energetic, enthusiastic individual who will collaborate with the Paul Cuffee learning community, including staff, students, parents, and volunteers, to create a thriving library media center and program of services.
- Should have an expansive knowledge of both children and young adult literature and non-fiction, and experience connecting youth with materials for reading enjoyment and those that fulfill school assignments and support academic success.
- Has experience working in both a library and a school/classroom setting, and experience working with urban populations.
- Should possess knowledge of child growth and development and awareness of multiple learning styles.
- Should have experience working with a broad range of technologies including online catalogs and technology/software used for circulation, tracking collections, and bibliographic records.
- Bachelor's degree or higher from an accredited college or university required
- Valid Rhode Island Teacher Certificate required
- All Grades Library Media Teacher
- National background check (after offer)
- Citizenship, residency or work visa required
