Location: Syracuse,NY, USA
The physician assistant/nurse practitioner is a temporary 9-month, 20 hour per week, academic year position responsible for providing primary care to the SU student population under the supervision of the Medical Director. The Temporary Nurse Practitioner (NP)will refer to specialists and outside medical facilities when necessary. The NP will consult with the Medical Director and collaborate with other practitioners as needed, to assure comprehensive care is provided. PA/NP will engage in campus health promotion and medical education activities. This position should always be expanding his/her knowledge base and stay up-to-date on current best practices, by participating in relevant continuing education.
Education and Experience
* Candidate must have graduated from either an accredited Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner program and be currently licensed as a physician assistant/nurse practitioner in good standing to practice in New York State.
* Current NCCPA board certification as a physician assistant or ANCC/AANP board certification as a nurse practitioner.
* Three (3) plus years of experience required.
Skills and Knowledge
* Candidate must have expert knowledge in, and be able to assess, diagnose, treat, and provide follow up to students presenting with medical diagnosis' commonly afflicting college students.
* Candidate must collaborate well with Health Services staff, outside medical providers, mental health providers, healthcare facilities, the County Health Department and members of the campus community.
* This position requires some limited on-call duties, evenings and occasional weekends during the academic year.
* Candidate must have experience working with a culturally diverse population.
* Experience working with college population preferred.
Responsibilities
* Assess, diagnose, treat and follow up patients for medical illnesses/injuries.
* Attend appropriate meetings and serve on committees and work collaboratively with other SUHS staff in collaborative efforts to improving efficiency and quality of care provided to students.
* Communicate and coordinate with appropriate community medical providers, mental health providers, health care facilities and community agencies when needed to provide collaborative patient care.
* Engage in continuing education to stay current on best practices and fulfill and maintain state licensure and national certification.
* Meet regularly with supervising Medical Director to establish and evaluate goals, concerns, etc. Other duties as assigned.
