Job Description Summary

The School of Veterinary Medicine's Shelter Medicine Unit has an ongoing need for temporary Mobile Clinic Recovery Team Technicians/Assistants. This posting describes the basic responsibilities and requirements for this role. The shelter medicine team is seeking an applicant who takes initiative, is adaptable to changing situations, learns new skills quickly, and can remain calm in stressful situations. In this temporary position, you will be an important member of the clinical team that is responsible for facilitating the Mobile Clinic Surgery days. They will work alongside the Mobile Unit Lead CVT to assist with inventory, stocking, and cleaning the mobile unit. They will also be responsible for monitoring the recovery portion of the clinic day. This position works closely with veterinary students to assist them in successfully completing clinic tasks.

Job Description

Responsibilities include:

+ Assist with stocking, cleaning, and support patient care responsibilities on the mobile unit project under the Mobile Unit Lead CVT.

+ Direct involvement in anesthesia, monitoring, prep, recovery, and medication /vaccine management in a state of the art mobile clinic, as well as assist with maintenance of veterinary equipment on the unit.

+ Maintaining the recovery aspect of the clinic including set up, break down, and additional preparations and clean up for the clinic day. You should be comfortable identifying irregularities in patient recovery monitoring and alerting the Mobile Clinic Lead CVT and veterinarians of the need for support.

+ Have a role in teaching veterinary students in clinical settings and students involved in outreach activities.

+ Follow standard operating procedures (SOPs)

+ Assist with maintaining electronic medical records (EMRs).

Qualifications

Vocational or Technical School and 1-2 years of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience is required. A licensed CVT in Pennsylvania is preferred, and experience with high quality, high-volume surgery is beneficial. Some experience in shelter medicine is required. Outreach experience to the community is also encouraged. Above average foundational veterinary technical skills are required including anesthesia, surgical monitoring, prep, restraint, behavior, radiology, instrument management, and dentistry. They should also be familiar with using electronic medical records. Experience with Clinic HQ is a positive, but not a requirement. Fear Free or Penn Vet CALM certification is also a positive, but not a requirement. Must be able to work independently, with a team, in tight spaces, identify and solve problems, and have above average technological skills. This individual will be expected to have respectful and professional interactions with others at Penn Vet and with partners and may have other responsibilities as designated by the Penn Vet Shelter Medicine Program. The individual will need to be able to lift patients, including large breed dogs and cats in humane traps, load supplies on and off the unit including into a high storage area, stand for ten-hour shifts, and sit for periods of time to do project work when appropriate. Weekly schedules can vary based on clinical workload and task priorities.
