JOB DESCRIPTION SUMMARYThe Part-time Clinical Counselor provides brief (short-term) counseling with a range of assessments (as appropriate to their licensure and experience), interventions, and case management for individuals, couples, and groups using psycho-educational and therapeutic counseling methods. These services are provided to assist students and their dependents to achieve more effective personal, social and educational development. They will also assist in working with Students in Disability Services with testing and accommodations. Performs other tasks as assigned.
MAJOR ACCOUNTABILITIESPrimary ResponsibilitiesDirect Clinical Service
- Provides crisis counseling and conducts brief assessments with students
- Participates in the on-call crisis counselor rotation, providing crisis intervention during after-office hours
- Conducts intake interviews with students and completes the required clinical documentation via our electronic recordkeeping system
- Provides individual, couples, and group counseling to students on a scheduled basis or through crisis intervention.
- Utilizes diagnostic assessment procedures and psychometric methods to facilitate psychotherapy as needed.
- Conducts evaluation and assessment for a range of clinical issues and diagnostic concerns.
- Provides outreach workshops and lectures to campus community.
- Provides clinical services to diverse client populations and whose clinical work, supervision, and community intervention is infused with ethical and multicultural competency and who demonstrates clear interest and commitment to all dimensions of diversity.
Supportive Duties
- Maintains up-to-date clinical documentation via an electronic recordkeeping system.
- Consults with supervisors and staff as needed.
- Acts as a campus resource on mental health and represents Counseling and Disability Services in the university community.
- Acts as a liaison between client and campus or community resources as needed.
- Provides consultation to staff, faculty, and parents seeking assistance with troubled students or those with serious mental health issues.
- Attends training seminars, staff meetings and supervision on a weekly basis and in a prompt manner.
- Represents the department and division at public relations events as requested.
- Interacts with staff and students in a professional and ethical manner.
- Participates in supervision and training with an openness to learning and receiving feedback.
- Performs additional job-related duties and responsibilities as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCEEducation and Work Experience: A Minimum of five (5) years practical experience as a licensed Mental Health Clinician and a current clinical license in the individual's professional discipline is required. Have intercultural experience in a mental health setting. A Master's and/or Doctoral degree in a related field of study is required.
SKILL SETExcellent interpersonal skills as well as oral and written communication, sound and accurate judgment. Knowledge and experience with MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook desirable. Fluency in a 2nd language is also desirable. Must be motivated, organized and willing to take initiative. Is ethical and professional in their interactions. Upholds values and mission of the university.
LICENSURE OR CERTIFICATIONA current clinical license in the individual's professional discipline and eligibility for licensure in Hawaii is required. A commitment to licensure in the state of Hawaii within one year and maintenance of the licensure is also required. The discipline could include Licensed Clinical Social Worker, Licensed Psychologist, Licensed Professional Counselor, or Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist.
Approximate starting hourly rate: $24.00 - $27.00. The wage offered could be above or below range based on education and experience as it relates to the job description
