This is a full-time position with benefits that include paid vacation and sick time, health, dental, life and long-term disability insurance.The Tenant Advocate position actively participates in carrying out the mission of CCHC by providing direct support to tenants of the Silver Creek Corner a supportive housing building serving formerly homeless single adults and/or chronic public inebriates. The Tenant Advocate provides services as a member of a team and implements the program goals based on Housing First and Harm Reduction philosophies.Duties and Responsibilities:1. Develop and understanding of Housing First and Harm Reduction philosophies and apply to specific duties.2. Ability to work independently and as a member of a team to effectively advocate for tenants.3. Operate agency vehicles for tenant transportation needs.4. Provide advocacy to assist tenants in accessing appropriate health care and community services.5. Coordinate tenant appointments and attend tenant appointments as needed.6. Requires flexibility in schedule.7. Maintain agency vehicles including fueling, upkeep, mileage logs, and coordinating repairs.8. Engage in daily interactions with tenants and team members that support housing stability.9. Engage tenants to assist them with daily needs, requests, issues, and provide appropriate direction.10. Provide tenant advocacy including encouragement of goal completion and participation with tenant/staffing meetings to implement Harm Reduction strategies.11. Accurately log, verbally communicate, and document tenant needs/activities as required.12. Participate with team meetings regarding tenant stability/needs and carry out developed tasks.13. Maintain and update database for appointments and generate appointment reminders.14. Receive and retrieve medications from vendors.15. Complete weekly room checks.16. Conduct, create, recruit, advertise, and participate in weekly tenant activities.17. Assist in managing an inventory of activity incentives.18. Respond to and resolve issues of controversy that may arise between tenants and/or guests using Non-Violent crisis intervention strategies.19. Manage difficult tenant issues by de-escalating potentially volatile situations and seeking additional help, including police assistance as needed.20. Perform basic office duties and support: faxing, copying, compiling, filing, computer work, stocking supplies, and data collection.21. Attend and participate in routine staff meeting and training opportunities.22. Cover vacant shifts as needed and be on call as needed.RequirementsThis position requires a person who is self-motivated with the ability to work independently and as a member of a team to carry out job duties. This position requires a person who has interpersonal skills necessary to tactfully deal with tenants and the general public in a professional manner. The person in this position will need to work effectively with people who are inebriated and/or have active mental health issues. This position requires driving and vehicle maintenance knowledge. A high school diploma/GED or equivalent is required. Experience working with the population is a plus. Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license and have a driving record acceptable to agency's insurance carrier. Must also have reliable transportation available around the clock in order to fulfill on call duties.
