GENERAL REQUIREMENTS FOR COACHES Interscholastic athletics is an integral part of the curriculum in a comprehensive high school. The task of coaching is very demanding and time consuming; however, the experience can be one of the most rewarding in education. Coaches are often excellent teachers and those that apply learning strategies and knowledge of student abilities to their coaching are most successful. Outlined below are a list of requirements for all coaches. The foremost requirement that we provide a learning experience for young people that will help them to grow physically and emotionally into capable members of society. ELIGIBILITY/PHYSICALS/INSURANCE Assist the Athletic Director to verify grades as per eligibility policy. Ensure that all students have proper physical and insurance forms on file before an athlete can practice. Monitor players that are on probationary status. EQUIPMENT Be responsible for procuring clothing and practice equipment adequate for competition in the NCL I and Class A CIF. Be responsible for issuing, collecting, and storing equipment. An inventory of the equipment shall be given to the Athletic Director within two weeks after the end of the season. SPORTSMANSHIP Promote good relations among players, coaches, fans, and officials. STUDENT SELF-ESTEEM The self-esteem of each student/athlete is of primary importance to the coach. Decisions made by coaches can be damaging to students. Those decisions must be made with consideration for the feelings of the adolescent. Most unpleasant situations with parents and students are avoided by talking with the player prior to making decisions public. Contact must be made with students prior to cutting them. REPORTING TO MEDIA Call local media after all contests to report scores and statistics.
