These include but are not limited to, assisting college students, (which may include College Credit Plus students), in developing academic and career goals; creating and developing educational academic plans to degree/certificate completion and/or transfer; identifying and developing strategies and skills for adapting to the educational environment, and providing academic counseling to students in academic curriculum areas. Assists with New Student Orientations by providing individual academic counseling appointments and New Student Orientation presentations. May provide crisis intervention. Assignment includes day, evening and weekend hours. May teach General Studies courses and student success workshops as needed. Full-time contracted faculty may be assigned committee responsibilities, departmental and community service responsibilities.
- Engages in a wide range of academic, personal, and career counseling during individual student appointments.
- Engages in outreach efforts with instructional faculty and staff, as needed, to educate students and employees in areas of expertise.
- Keeps updated on developments in the field by reading current literature, speaking with colleagues and participating in professional conferences development.
- Maintains licensure in professional field.
- Serves on academic and/or administrative committees that focus on institutional policies/procedures, department matters and academic issues.
- Collaborates with Student Affairs and Academic Success personnel to document and share information that allows staff members to effectively support students and meet their needs. Collaborate with Student Affairs and Academic Success partners to effectively leverage technology to support student success efforts at the College.
- Participates in campus and community events.
- Assists students with Degree Completion, including work with Registrar on Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System (IPEDS) and College Credit Plus cohorts.
- Maintains academic counseling records using SARS, QuadC, DegreeWorks, Banner, One Record, and other College systems, when appropriate.(When teaching credit ornon-credit courses)
- Prepares and delivers lectures to students on various topics in relation to a specific discipline - General Studies/Counseling areas.
- Prepares course materials such as syllabi, homework assignments and handouts.
- Evaluates and grades students' class work, assignments and papers.
- Maintains student attendance records, grades and other required records.
- As needed, advises students on academic and vocational curricula and on career issues.
- Plans, evaluates and revises curricula, course content and course materials and methods of instruction.
- Compiles, administers and grades examinations.
- Collaborates with colleagues to address teaching and research issues.
- Maintains regularly scheduled office hours to counsel and assist students.
- Selects and obtains materials and supplies such as textbooks.
- Initiates, facilitates and moderates classroom discussions.
Required • Master's Degree in Counseling, Social Work or a closely related field with at least 18 graduate-level course hours in Counseling or Social Work• One year of higher education experience in counseling as well as two semesters of teaching which may or may not occur concurrently • Licensed/Licensed-Eligible from the State of Ohio Counselor, Social Worker, Marriage and Family Therapist Board • A strong background in working with a multi-cultural diverse student population and sensitivity to respond to their needs• Skilled at building relationships/partnerships within and across in an organization and community• Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Suite (or equivalent)• Knowledge of principles and methods for curriculum and training design, teaching and instruction for students• Advanced communication (verbal, written and interpersonal) and organizational skills• Logic and reasoning skills to identify solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems• Sensitivity to respond appropriately to the needs of a diverse populationPreferred• Higher education counseling in the areas of academic program counseling, transfer counseling, study skills, student assessment, career development, career exploration, personal growth, personal counseling, employment search, college success strategies, college navigation, and crisis intervention• Belief that individuals can make a difference in the lives of students• Excellence in facilitating the learning process for students, learning and using new technology, and applying diverse strategies in response to using new technology, and applying diverse instructional strategies in response to learner demographics and learning styles• Belief in the value of working and learning in a diverse environment• Ability to adapt to dynamic multi-campus organizational work environments• Understanding and embracing the mission of the community college• Possessing the energy and persistence to motivate and support others to pursue a larger goal• Being skilled in building strategic alliances both within and across disciplines, and within and outside the College• Knowledge of principles and methods for curriculum and training design, teaching and instruction for students • Ability to serve as a strong advocate for College initiatives and new curriculum that promote student success• Community college teaching experienceSpecial Note: Special Note: This is a full-time tenure track faculty opportunity. - Target Hiring Rate/Salary: $55,901 with B.A. plus 30 semester hours (45 quarter credits) or M.A. degree; Education less than or more than stated will affect minimum salary. This salary reflects a nine (9) month contract period. Faculty can work during summer sessions to earn additional wages.
