SUNY Ulster Term Instructor- Developmental MathematicsFull-time; non-tenure track; starting January 2025Application Deadline: Open Until FilledPriority Screening: November 21, 2024Position Summary:SUNY Ulster County Community College, a two-year branch of the State University of New York located ninety miles north of New York City in the Catskill Mountains, is currently accepting applications for a Term Instructor of Developmental Mathematics.This is a full-time, term-limited faculty appointment for the spring 2025 semester teaching developmental and Quantway sequence mathematics for the SUNY Ulster Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) Department.The successful candidate will teach a wide variety of Developmental Mathematics courses, including, but not limited to, MAT097 Introduction to Algebra, MAT095 Introduction to Quantitative Reasoning, and MAT110 Quantitative Reasoning. This position may include a combination of day, evening, weekend, extension site, online, and/or hybrid assignments.Duties and Responsibilities:Have the ability to teach in a variety of learning modalities such as face-to-face, Hyflex, or remote as necessary given the needs of the college.Utilize the Brightspace learning management system for all courses.Work with the Developmental Math Coordinator and STEM Department Chair in instituting any necessary data-driven curricular changes in developmental mathematics and Quantway courses.Use and develop a variety of effective teaching and assessment methods to engage student interest and address a variety of learning styles.Develop curriculum to integrate multicultural perspectives.Integrate appropriate instructional technology into the classroom to enhance student learning.Maintain accurate records according to published deadlines (i.e., grades, syllabi, attendance reporting).Advise and instruct students regarding programs of study, other institutions of higher education, lifelong learning resources, and effective study skills; refer students to support services, programs, resources, and other professionals as appropriate.Evaluate student work using clear criteria relevant to the course content and learning outcomes.Participate in departmental and campus-wide developmental mathematics meetings as appropriate.Perform duties described in Board policy, the faculty collective bargaining contract, and as assigned at the Stone Ridge, Kingston, and/or other designated locations.Minimum Qualifications:A Master's degree in mathematics, mathematics education, or closely-related field.The equivalent of two years of pre-algebra through algebra teaching experience at the college level.A strong commitment to the community college goals and objectives of providing a quality education for culturally, socio-economically, ethnically, and academically diverse students and students with disabilities.Preferred QualificationsFamiliarity with Carnegie Math Pathways Quantway quantitative reasoning courses.Experience with the Brightspace learning management system.Demonstrated ability to teach developmental mathematics at the college level, using varied teaching methods that engage students in their own learning and include learning outcomes that motivate students to develop higher-order critical thinking and problem-solving skills.Personal and Professional QualitiesKnowledge of and commitment to community college teaching.Ability to work cooperatively in a productive team environment.Effective interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.Salary:An initial starting salary of $47,500 - $56,500 will be commensurate with education, training, and experience per academic year with an excellent benefits package.
