Campus Location: Main Campus (Galloway)Department: Campus Public SafetySalary Information: $22.00 per hourWork Hours: 15-20 hours a weekBrief Job Overview/SummaryUnder the direction of a supervisory official at a State University, develops and implements fire and safety programs, conductsinspections of ground and buildings occupied by students and college staff and corrects fire and safety hazards.Descriptions of Essential Duties/Responsibilities:The Fire Safety and Prevention Officer is responsible for the following:* Develops and implements fire and safety programs for a college campus* Conducts inspections of grounds and buildings occupied or utilized by students and staff to identify fire and safety hazards, including but limited to electrical devices, outlets, obstruction of emergency exits, lighting and other potentially hazardous conditions* Takes measures to, or provides recommendations for correction of fire and safety hazards* Maintains inventory of fire safety and related equipment* Interprets and applies fire regulations* Identifies and implements changes in the safety and accident prevention program* Inspects fire extinguishers for accessibility and that they are up-to- code with date* Conducts and supervises the fire drills; observes and evaluates evacuation results* Cooperates with local fire departments to investigate the cause of fires* May provide training in safety procedures* Provides advice and guidance on fire and safety regulations* Responds to fire alarms, oversees building evacuation* Establishes and maintains essential records and files* May perform other duties as assigned* Support Stockton University's diversity commitment and strong student-centered vision and missionRequired Qualifications* 1 year experience in the implementation of fire prevention and safety programs, including the inspection, identification and correction of fire and safety hazards* Training and experience in emergency management or emergency medical service preferred.Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:* Knowledge of the methods used to conduct inspections* Knowledge of the techniques used to develop and implement fire and safety programs* Knowledge of the factors likely to cause hazardous conditions* Knowledge of fire prevention and safety techniques* Ability to develop and implement fire and safety programs* Ability to conduct inspections to identify fire and safety hazards* Ability to correct fire and safety hazards* Ability to conduct and supervise the conduct of fire drills* Ability to establish and maintain essential records and files* Ability to prepare reports* Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with those interested or involved in the work of the program* Ability to interpret laws, rules and regulations and apply them to specific situations* Ability to learn to utilize various types of manual or electronic recording and information systems used by the agency, office or related units* Ability to read, write, speak, understand and communicate in English sufficiently to perform the duties of this position.
