Job Description:
DescriptionThe primary responsibilities of Aerial Lineman are responsible for building repairing and maintaining overhead telecommunication systems. Maintain control of outside plant (OSP) activities surrounding the assigned work area(s). Support project timelines, conduct inspections, designing and providing accurate as-builts for projects. Other duties, responsibilities and qualifications may be required and/or assigned. (This is meant to be a guide. Duties may vary dependent upon management.)Essential Position Functions:
  • Demonstrate a proficiency in connecting, rearranging, repairing, and maintaining aerial outside (OSP) cable to supply and maintain service.
  • Able to Install aerial and underground cables and/or support members in compliance with all applicable codes (NESC), regulations, and customer specifications.
  • Ability to dismantle, move, and remove aerial, underground or building wire, cable associated equipment, and hardware.
  • Able to attach/detach various types of hardware, strand, cables, buildings, or poles.
  • Repair and maintain major cable system coax and fiber and structures such as broken lashing, replacing or re-sagging aerial strand, pole transfers, down-guys, aerial to underground conversion, substructure repairs and cable replacements related to system outages, maintenance, rebuilds and emergencies or hazards.
  • Perform construction work such as placing and removing poles and anchors, pulling and strand wire and cable from pole to pole, laying cable and conduit in the ground. (May include assisting ground crews with burying underground plant.)
  • Understand how to efficiently set up the job (strand, cable, fiber, and caddies).
  • Understand clearances requirements from the other utilities, ground, road, highway, sidewalk, and non-pedestrian areas.
  • Ensure that all work considers the safety of the customer and public and compliance with all governmental orders.
  • Ability to safely utilize bucket trucks, access manholes, and hand holes.
  • Use of hand tools, ladders, and equipment to assist in the completion of an assigned project.
  • Daily documentation of work performed, material usage, and other record keeping tasks.
  • Daily timekeeping required.
  • Perform work following established and TrueNet mandated Safety and Health guidelines.
  • Ability to solve problems quickly and effectively with little to no supervision.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Education and/or Experience:
  • High school diploma or GED preferred.
  • 2+ years' experience as an aerial lineman preferred.
  • 2+ years' MSO/CATV experience preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of building strand, lashing, pole transfers and grounding required.
  • Proficient in the use of hand tools and equipment. (Wrenches, Drills, Ladders, Lanyards, Saws, etc.)
  • Proficient in the use of telecom construction equipment. (Aerial Lifts, Lashers, etc.)
  • Must have basic Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) skills.
  • Must be able to efficiently use a Windows-based computer.
  • Ability to prioritize and complete assignments accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Able to effectively handle multiple priorities with a strong attention to detail in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, oral, and written communications skills.
  • Must be able to work alone, and with a team.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license and have a clean driving record.
  • Must be able to pass a background check and drug screen.

  • Frequent walking, standing, climbing, bending/twisting, pushing/pulling within the work area.
  • Must be able to pass a DOT physical to obtain and maintain a DOT Health Card.
  • Ability to work in a confined space and aloft up to 40 feet (poles, hydraulic lift buckets, ladders.)
  • Must be able to lift, up to 100 pounds.
  • Must be able to work alone, and with a team.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with employees, management, peers, et al.
  • Must be able to work in various weather conditions (hot, cold, wet, and dry).

  • Must be able to travel up to 50% (most travel is planned).
  • Ability to work in all temperatures, climates, and weather conditions.
  • Must be able to work nights and weekends, as needed, to meet client needs.
  • Ability to drive a bucket truck and/or pulling a trailer.
  • Carry, set-up and extend ladders weighing up to 100 lbs.
  • Working in/on bucket trucks, ladders, and utility poles at heights up to 40 feet.
  • Must be able to work in loud, noise-filled, environment out in the field.
  • The position requires working independently, as well as part of a team.
  • This position requires verbal and face-to-face contact with others daily.
  • This position requires use of all general office equipment.
