Tier 2
Duties and Responsibilities

Depending on assigned area of responsibility, incumbents in the position may perform some or all of the activities described below.
* Contributes to and shares in staff conferences, staff development and in-service training programs, and other procedures designed to improve service to program participants.
* Assists in the preparation and implementation of educational programs for program participants and their families.
* Supervises employees and volunteers assigned to assist with the program.
* Maintains records of client care, program evaluation, and equipment inventory.
* Makes recommendations for the acquisition of recreational equipment and supplies.
* Serves as liaison between the unit or program and other public and private agencies serving the program clients.
* Oversees and coordinates maintenance of assigned facilities to ensure public safety.
* Supervises subordinate staff by scheduling, assigning and reviewing work, providing training and counseling, and evaluating performance.
* Participates in the selection and hiring of new employees.
* Performs other related duties as required.
Job Specifications
* Knowledge of the theories, techniques and practices of recreational activities.
* Knowledge of applicable departmental and safety policies and procedures.
* Knowledge of the principles and techniques of music, arts and crafts, drama, dance, and other recreational therapy areas.
* Ability to communicate effectively and persuasively, both verbally and in writing.
* Ability to formulate action plans, identify needs, and arranges for, and obtains resources needed to accomplish goals and objectives. Develops and uses tracking systems for monitoring own work progress. Effectively uses resources such as time and information.
* Ability to presents and expresses ideas and information clearly and concisely in a manner appropriate to the audience, whether oral or written.
* Ability to actively listen and understand what others are saying
* Ability to work effectively with others.
* Ability to set priorities, meet deadlines and multi-task.
* Ability to administer CPR and First Aide as necessary.
* Ability to use a computer and related software.
* Skill in the use of various office equipment.
Work Category
* Light to medium work - Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. If the use of arm and/or leg control requires exertion of forces greater than that of sedentary work and if the worker sits most of the time, the job is considered light work.
Minimum Qualifications Required
* Graduation from an accredited four year degree granting college or university with a major in Therapeutic Recreation, Adaptive Physical Education, Recreation, Special Education, or a related field; AND
* 3 years of experience providing therapeutic recreation to special needs population;
OR
* An equivalent combination of education (not less than a high school diploma/GED), training and experience that would reasonably be expected to provide the job-related competencies noted above; AND
* Must obtain First Aid and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Certification with Practical Application within 6 months of employment; AND
* Possession of a valid Florida Driver's License.
Emergency Management Responsibilities
In the event of an emergency or disaster, an employee may be required to respond promptly to duties and responsibilities as assigned by the employee's department, the County's Office of Emergency Management, or County Administration. Such assignments may be for before, during or after the emergency/disaster.

* Maintain the ability to pass the background checks required for the position. These background checks may include but are not limited to:
* Criminal History Background Check using Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS)
* Level 1 and Level 2 Background screening (Ch. 435 Florida Statutes)
* Child Abuse, Abandonment and Neglect Record Check using the State Automated Child Welfare Information System (SACWIS)
* Sex Offender and Sexual Predator record check using the list maintained by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE)
* Possess the necessary job related license(s) or certification(s) that may include possession of a Florida Driver License (Class E) or an applicable Commercial Driver License (CDL)
Career Progression
Employees in this classification that acquire the competencies and minimum qualifications for the next tier will be able to apply for promotional opportunities through a competitive selection process. Employees will not automatically be upgraded to the next tier. Reclassifying a position is based on business need and financial impact and is not based solely on the job competencies or qualifications of the incumbent.
