Job Description:

The Microsoft Threat Analysis Center (MTAC) is looking for a Threat Context Analyst (Korea) with proficiency in the Korean language and experience in cyber and cyber-enabled influence operations in the Asia-Pacific region in general and the Korean Peninsula in particular. The analyst will leverage their language skills and geopolitical knowledge to develop assessments about how cyber and influence operations fit into the regional security landscape. They will contribute to MTAC's mission to detect, assess, and disrupt digital threats to Microsoft, its customers, and democracies worldwide. MTAC is part of the Customer Security & Trust (CST) organization within Microsoft's Corporate, External, and Legal Affairs (CELA) group.

In this role, the analyst will leverage Korean language and regional, cultural, and geopolitical knowledge to develop assessments and further attribution of nation-state influence and cyber operations in the Asia Pacific region. This will require analyzing Korean-language press and social media content quickly and efficiently to capture relevant findings, as well as synthesizing data/intelligence from cross company sources to draw conclusions about cyber threats. The analyst will work collaboratively with MTAC's broader Asia-Pacific team to analyze threats to the Korean peninsula from nation state actors. They will also write and brief on a broader set of analytic findings, integrating open-source information with data from Microsoft's telemetry for executive audiences and customers and occasionally write for public audiences.

Required Qualifications:

* Business level fluency to read, write and speak Korean

Other Requirements:

* This position requires verification of citizenship due to citizenship-based legal restrictions. Specifically, this position supports United States federal, state, and/or local government agency customers and is subject to certain citizenship-based restrictions where required or permitted by applicable law. To meet this legal requirement, and as a condition of employment, the successful candidate's citizenship will be verified with a valid passport.

Preferred Experience:

* Bachelor's Degree in Linguistics, Journalism, Communications, Political Science, History, Geography, Area Studies (e.g. Middle Eastern Studies, Asian Studies), Data Science/Economics/Econometrics, Anthropology, English/Literature/Comparative Literature/Philosophy or Religious Studies or related field.

* Experience leveraging language skills for open-source research and analytic experience working on cyber and/or disinformation threats in the Asia-Pacific region, including prior experience researching on social media platforms used in the Korean peninsula and Asia-Pacific region (e.g. KakaoTalk, LINE, Tistory, WeChat).

* Additional language skills are a plus, particularly Asian languages (e.g., Mandarin, Japanese, Taiwanese, Cantonese, Filipino, Vietnamese, Malay, Indonesian).

* Experience tracking cyber actors, infrastructure, and operational techniques and East Asia geopolitical issues.

* Experience producing actionable threat intelligence or strategic analysis through written reports and products.

* Experience collaborating with other analysts, technical collectors, and threat intelligence partners in government and industry is a plus.

Business Analytics IC2 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $66,900 - $135,000 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $89,600 - $148,200 per year.

* Research and assess on cyber and malign influence threats at tactical and strategic levels by drawing on information from social media accounts and websites, foreign policy priorities and perspectives from open-source reporting, and activity of Asia-Pacific-based cyber and influence threats from Microsoft telemetry.

* Write threat intelligence reports for customers on adversary influence actors, networks, and operations, including rapid reaction reporting on emerging threats, such as those enabled by artificial intelligence (AI).

* Work closely with the broader Microsoft Threat Intelligence team in its investigations of nation state cyber operations, drawing on their technical findings to inform analysis.

* Develop engaging presentations and brief various stakeholders under tight deadlines.

* Follow innovative, non-intrusive, law-abiding methods for detecting, diagnosing, and deterring the most advanced and prolific threats in the information environment.
