Job Details:
PurposeTexas Education THRIVE is a program that provides campus and district level support to improve mentorship and induction practices for early career teachers. The curriculum writing team will work collaboratively to develop mentoring and induction curricula. This position is funded 100% through philanthropic gifts to the college. This is an non-benefits eligible position. This position is fixed-term, and the expected end date is August 31, 2024, with the possibility of the renewal and the extension of the appointment depending on funding and performance.
ResponsibilitiesCurriculum Writers will:
Identify key mentor program curriculum components.
Review existing mentoring programs in the field and identify exemplars
Understand and leverage existing bodies of research
Develop of THRIVE mentor curriculum components.
Work with subject matter experts to develop course content and supporting materials
Identify and seek guidance from College of Education faculty in areas of expertise
Translate research based approaches into meaningful and relevant mentoring strategies for a K-12 audience
Understand and utilize principles of adult learning
Understand the needs of early career teachers and design curriculum that trains mentors to meet those needs
Lead professional learning for mentors and teacher leaders.
Lead professional development sessions based on developed curriculum
Pilot test components as developed and refine curriculum based on feedback from participants
Develop train-the-trainer resources to prepare others to lead program components
Provide differentiated learning opportunities for new and experienced mentors
Support the Summer Mentor Institute in partnership with the Director and Coordinator of START
Bachelor's degree
Experience designing and delivering curriculum for adult learners
Experience as a successful classroom teacher
Demonstrated ability to build collaborative communities and relationships
Strong content and pedagogical knowledge
Experience as a campus mentor, academic coach, and /or campus administrator
A strong understanding and passion for supporting new to profession teachers
Experience in influencing and developing an atmosphere of shared respect, trust, and confidentiality with campus staff, district personnel, and teachers
Strong oral and written communication skills
Strong mentoring skills that demonstrate active listening, reflective questioning, and full engagement
Ability to apply a mentoring stance that facilitates the development of the early career teachers' agency and self efficacy
Experience in using various modes of technology such as email, virtual meeting platforms, social networking
Ability to use time effectively and take initiative when needed
Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.
Preferred QualificationsMaster's or higher degree in a related field
Experience as an instructional leader and/or campus administrator
Experience supporting bilingual, dual language, and/or special education teachers
Knowledge of Texas public school systems and policies
Understanding of best practices supporting school improvement
$29 - $44 per hour
