Assist the Senior Resource Forester in all activities associated with the management of a Resource Unit.
The salary range for this position is $54,439.05 - $90,731.75.
This position is bonus eligible, with a target value of 10% of salary.
Financial Management:
* Provides stand or project level information in the preparation of the annual operating budget including contracted services, expensed program and capital programs.
* Track performance and expenditures compared with budgets and objectives on assigned activities.
* Provide support information to develop financial and volume projections for harvesting and silviculture on an annual, quarterly and monthly basis.
* Adapts site specific plans as necessary to achieve desirable results. Communicate deviation from projected performances.
* Developing the ability to incorporate financial considerations in the decision-making process to affect key business drivers.
* Manage all operational projects in a cost-effective manner to return maximum value.
Planning & Operations:
* Development of site activity plans to achieve unit level strategies.
* Provides information to assist in the development of one and five year harvesting and silviculture plans.
* Develop an RMU inventory plan, verify stand delineations, assign prescriptions and update the database to maintain an accurate forest inventory.
* Assigns harvest systems, validates inventory volumes, estimates production costs, site prescriptions, determines access needs and completes unit layout on a stand basis.
* Helps prepare and execute silvicultural plans for reforestation, thinning, herbicide use, animal control, fertilization, surveying and slash management.
Contract Administration:
* Appraise, negotiate and administer contracts related to silviculture and harvesting activities.
* Inspect operations to ensure compliance with site activity plans, standard operating procedures, safety requirements and other contractual obligations.
* Ensure log sorting, log quality, delivery targets and site objectives are met from harvest units.
* Review invoices for payment.
Supervision:
* Lead and supervise project teams.
* Provide technical training to other employees.
* Provide supporting information for the evaluation and management of contractor performance.
* Perform special or occasional duties as required such as public relations activities, presentations, tours and other assigned projects.
Safety & Environmental:
* Actively participate in the compliance of all Standard Operating Procedures (SOP's) by employees and contractors and ensure compliance with safety programs, forest stewardship principals and Best Management Practices (BMP's).
* Participate in Corrective Action Recommendation (CAR) near miss reporting systems.
* Participate in professional organizations and associations related to resource management and represent Potlatch in occasional research studies and surveys
Requirements:
* Bachelor's Degree in Forestry or a related field required; Master's Degree in Forestry preferred.
* At least three (3) years forestry experience required with at least one (1) year of timber harvest knowledge and supervising contractors preferred.
* Excellent multitasking, planning, communication and organizational skills required.
* Displaying initiative and innovation through improving business processes.
* A developed understanding of key business drivers.
