Company Description: SUNY Maritime College located on a 55-acre scenic waterfront property on the outskirts of New York City on the Throggs Neck peninsula where the East River meets Long Island Sound. Job Description: The Title IX Coordinator will report directly to the Dean of Students, and have a dotted line report to the Assistant Vice President for Human Resources & Chief Diversity Officer of the College. Responsibilities include investigating claims of sexual discrimination, harassment, sexual assault, violence or misconduct and identifying the appropriate responses or resolutions as may be prescribed by Policy and Law. The Title IX Coordinator will work with the complainant(s) to assist them in accessing any appropriate internal and external support services. The incumbent will work closely with the Dean of Students on setting and executing policy and overseeing the processes that address reported concerns or claims of sex or gender-based harassment, discrimination, sexual misconduct or sexual violence. This position is also responsible for the development, oversight, and coordination of campus-wide education, training, and outreach programming for students, faculty, and staff related to Title IX, Clery Act and VAWA. Summer Sea Term is a 70 to 75-day training program aboard the College's training ship that may include visits to domestic and international ports. It is a requirement for the incumbent to annually participate, unless expressly waived by the Master of the Training Ship. Responsibilities include: Investigate claims of sexual discrimination, harassment, sexual assault, violence or misconductIdentify the appropriate responses or facilitate resolutions to complaints as may be prescribed by Policy and Law.Day-to-day application and review of College policies and practices to ensure compliance with, Title IX, Title VII and other Equal Opportunity laws at both the State and Federal levelsAssume primary responsibility for monitoring all amendments and interpretations to Title IX, the Clery Act, the Violence Against Women Act and other applicable laws and regulationsCoordinate and conduct prevention, and education training to SUNY Maritime students and staff pursuant to Title IX and related statutes and regulationsStay abreast of regulations and statutes and disseminate information of Title IX requirementsOrganize and maintain faculty and staff compliance records for required trainingAssisting the Office of Human Resource Services, Office of General Counsel with complaints of discrimination, harassment, and sexual harassment and work with the appropriate offices to advise staff, faculty and students of the college's policy and procedure regarding nondiscrimination and other Title IX mattersSupport inclusive excellence of SUNY Maritime Diversity Plan for equity and inclusionCollaborating with academic and administrative liaisons such as University Police, Athletics, Empire Training Ship, and the Office of Human Resource Services/Office of DiversityPreparing statistical reports for the compliance of the Annual Security Report which complies with Clery ActWorking with the appropriate offices to review reports on crime statistics provided by University PoliceCoordinate with the training ship staff onboard for Title IX investigation and make recommendations to shore side management in respect to investigation proceduresAs directed by supervisors and administrative authorities, participate in the Summer Sea Term training program as the college's designated SASH contactSupports the Mental Health initiatives Requirements: Required Qualifications: Bachelor's degree3-5 years of professional experience working with Title IX related issuesDemonstrated knowledge of and ability to interpret federal and state equal opportunity and non-discrimination laws and regulations, including Title IX, sexual harassment and other applicable laws and regulationsStrong counseling, negotiation, presentation and organizational skillsExcellent communication skills: writing, speaking, listeningComputer literacy and ability to handle extremely sensitive and confidential matters discreetlyAbility to conduct research and analyze data and draw conclusionsPrevious experience with and training in conducting investigatory processes and responding to complaintsExperience dealing with student conduct adjudication, investigations, dispute resolution, and compliance Preferred Qualifications: Master's Degree in Higher Education administration, legal studies, Juris Doctor, or relatedUnderstanding of higher education policy issues at both the state and federal levelsExperience in a public institution of higher education Additional Information: Classification/Salary Range: The Title IX Coordinator is a full-time calendar year Management/Confidential unclassified position which serves at the President's pleasure.
