Must be enrolled in a minimum of six hours during a long semester. Maintain a GPA of 3.0 or higher. Limited to working up to 19 hours per week. EEO/AAJob Summary Peer tutors will provide tutoring to small groups, who have requested a tutor for support in a specialized class as directed by the Director of Excelencia Center. This position assists students in improving academic achievement, supports students by reviewing and clarifying learning problems, and provides useful study skills to students that need supplemental help. Other assistance might include reviewing class material, discussing text, reviewing test questions, generating ideas for papers, or working on solutions to problems.The Peer Tutor will...1. Attend all scheduled tutoring sessions and notify the Director of Excelencia Center and the Title V Tutor if a session must be cancelled2. Provide the Director of Excelencia Center and the Title V Tutor with an up-to-date schedule of tutoring sessions3. Prepare for tutoring sessions by reviewing any notes, handouts, and/or bookwork4. Be punctual, begin all sessions promptly, use time for academic tasks, and focus on the student's needs5. Complete necessary personnel paperwork6. Maintain absolute confidentiality with regard to academic progress and/or personal information concerning students7. Recognize the different learning styles and student preferences8. Participate in professional development activities to improve tutorial skills and continue to grow cultural competence and reflection skills9. Make appropriate referrals to other campus and community resources as needed10. Collect attendance data for every tutoring session, including student names, course title, date and time of session11. Coordinate meetings and schedules with students' as appropriate12. Attend staff meetings13. Make periodic announcements about the availability of the tutoring sessions to the students14. Maintain regular working hours15. Other duties as assigned by the DirectorMinimum Qualifications 1. A grade of B+ or above in the course(s) for which you wish to tutor2. Recommended by the instructor who taught the course3. Have and maintain an overall 3.0 GPA or higher (on a 4.0 scale)4. Organized, efficient and flexible5. Commitment to academic integrity6. Be willing to attend trainings and regular meetingsPreferred Qualifications Familiar with Microsoft Word and Excel.Excellent customer service skills a plus.Salary $13.00 per hour Work Hours Up to 19 hours per weekEssential Job Functions
