Substitute Teacher Employment OpportunityPOSITION: Certificated Substitute Classroom Teacher OverviewThe Portola Valley School District is seeking capable, qualified substitute classroom teachers for both school sites: Ormondale School (TK-3) and Corte Madera School (4-8). The District utilizes the AESOP online sub calling and notification system. The ideal applicant must be a skilled organizer and collaborator, with classroom teaching experience.Training and Experience1. Three (3) years classroom teaching experience in an elementary and/or middle grade classroom preferred.2. Knowledge of different grade level units of study (also preferred).3. Knowledge of and experience in implementing an array of best practices related to elementary school-age grade level instruction.4. Interest in working in an elementary school community. Physical Demands and Working ConditionsIndoor classroom, and frequent outdoor playground environment; subject to frequent interruptions;Computer lab exposure;Daily routine ability to exchange information via hearing and speaking;Skills, knowledge, mental ability, and manual dexterity to carry out the posted duties and responsibilities of the job, interpret and implement school policies, rules and regulations, and make determinations relative to the effective performance of the essential responsibilities of the position;Ability to sit, stand and/or walk for lengthy periods of time to monitor student progress;Ability to hear and understand speech at normal room levels;Ability to speak in audible tones so that others, including young children, may understand clearly;Ability to comprehend visual and auditory input given by others;Short term and long term memory ability is required in all tasks;Situations may require lifting of up to 25 lbs. (light objects as part of classroom environment)Seeing to perform assigned duties with or without vision aids; sitting or standing for extended periods of time;Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate office machinery as needed during class time as necessary to perform the duties of the position;Ability to bend, reach walk, knee, bend at the waist, and reach overhead, above the shoulders and horizontally. Comments and Other InformationFOR CERTIFICATED TEACHER SUBSTITUTES: Full Day Assignment 7:45 - 3:15 P.M., both schools sites: The rate of pay is $350/day for the first 10 days worked during the school year. Upon completion of Day 10, the rate of pay is $375/day starting Day 11. Half Day Morning 7:45 AM - 11:30 AM $187.50 Half Day Afternoon 11:30 AM - 3:15 PM $187.50 All Other Assignments: Assignments that do not meet the criteria for Full Day, Half Day AM or Half Day PM will be paid at $50/Hour (2 hour minimum, i.e., you will never be paid less than $100). Long Term Assignment: Substitutes who possess a California State Teaching Credential or 30 Day Emergency Sub Permit, and teach in the same full-time assignment for thirty (30) consecutive days, will be paid $375/day beginning the first day of the long term assignment. Substitutes who teach in the same full-time assignment for twenty-one (21) consecutive days, and possess a full, valid California State Teaching Credential (this does not include permits) will be paid at their appropriate per diem rate as determined by the current salary schedule for certificated teachers, beginning the first day of the assignment. Placement on the salary schedule must be verified by transcripts and employment records. PVSD Teachers Who Serve As Substitute Teachers District teachers who serve as a Substitute Teacher during a preparation period or other non-schedule time on a regular work day will be paid at the contractual hourly rate of $60.00. On days when a part-time teacher is not regularly scheduled to work, the full day, morning-only and afternoon-only rates of pay will prevail. TIMESHEETS Timesheets are due in the school office at the end of each assignment. Pay periods are from the 1st day of the month to the last day of the month. Paychecks are distributed on the 10th day of the following month and will be mailed unless the Business Office is otherwise directed.
