Job Description:
About the Opportunity:•Job Title: Tool & Die Cutter•Pay: $30/Hour•Location: Mendota Heights, MN•Schedule: 1st Shift, Mon-Thurs 6AM-3PM and Fri 6AM-12PM with optional O/T.Daily functions:
  • Studies specifications such as blueprints, sketches, models, or descriptions, and visualizes product to determine materials required to fabricate parts.
  • Compute dimensions, plans layout, and sometimes determines assembly method and sequence of operations.
  • Measures, marks, and scribes metal stock for machining.
  • Sets up and operates machine and verifies conformance of machined parts to specifications.
  • Lifts machined parts and positions and secures parts on surface plate or worktable.
  • Soothes flat and contoured surfaces and power grinders, and sometimes fits and assembles parts together and into assemblies and mechanisms.
  • Verifies dimensions, clearances, and alignment of members and parts in die.
  • Heat treats tools or parts.
  • Examines standard or previously used dies, tools, and jigs and fixtures, and sometimes recommends design modifications regarding construction and function of part.
  • Develops specifications from general descriptions for specialty tools and draws or sketches design of product.
  • Dowels and bolts parts together.
  • Works to tolerances as close as thousandths.
  • Dismantles die and repairs or replaces parts.
  • Grinds, files, and sands parts to fit parts for assembly and to smooth and finish cavity.
  • Assembles die or mold.
  • Verifies dimensions.
  • Polishes die member.
  • Measures and marks die block to lay out designs of cavities.
  • Sets up and operates a variety of machine tools to machine cavities in die block.
  • Obtain specified dimensions, contours, and finish of die cavities.
  • Inspects die cavities to verify conformance to specifications.
  • Observes markings on model part and performs shaping and smoothing operations when required in draws and forms.
  • Consults with supervisor and more experienced tool & die makers to solve metal forming problems.
  • Makes templates to verify dimensions.
  • Makes tools to form die parts.
  • Ensure that all ISO9001 procedures relevant to his or her job are being followed.
  • Goes directly to work area assignment and runs machines as directed.
  • Maintains work area in a clean and safe manner.
  • Upon work assignment completion, operator presents completed work to supervisor for approval and further or new instructions.
  • Operator ensures parts are inspected every 100 pieces unless otherwise specified by supervisor.
  • Operator is responsible for correctly following the procedures for punching in and out of jobs.
  • Activates machine for manufacturing processing.
  • Operator must always follow all safety rules.
  • Supervisor may assign other duties as needed.
  • Desired qualifications:
  • Two-year certificate from college or technical school; or five years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Physical requirements:
  • Regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms.
  • Frequently is required to stand, walk, sit, and talk or hear.
  • Regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move more than 100 pounds.
  • Close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
