Job Description:
Too & Die Technician - 2nd Shift Primary Purpose Tooling and Die Technician will be responsible for supporting our Automotive Structures Plant in Van Buren Twp., Michigan. A successful Tooling and Die Technician will maintain the automated machine lines and the tooling related to the lines. Key accountabilities
  • Conduct test runs with completed tools or dies to ensure that parts meet specifications; make adjustments as necessary.
  • Communicate with RCT and Engineering on the design & development of jobs
  • Read and understand blueprints
  • Perform first piece and layouts as well as general quality functions
  • Order and check in spare tooling
  • Pull tooling from the presses at the end of production runs
  • Use all tool room equipment
  • Maintain tooling books
  • Cut, shape, and trim blanks or blocks to specified lengths or shapes, using power saws, power shears, rules, and hand tools
  • File, grind, shim, and adjust different parts to properly fit them together.
  • Fit and assemble parts to make, repair, or modify dies, jigs, gauges, and tools, using machine tools and hand tools
  • Inspect finished dies for smoothness, contour conformity, and defects
  • Lift, position, and secure machined parts on surface plates or worktables using hoists, vises,
v-blocks, or angle plates.
  • Measure, mark, and scribe metal or plastic stock to lay out machining, using instruments such as protractors, micrometers, scribes, and rulers
  • Clean up tooling, presses and press area
  • Follow all safety and health policies and procedures
  • All other duties assigned by the maintenance supervision and necessary to perform the job.
Required competencies, experience and technical skills
  • Must have 1 - 3 years' experience in maintaining applicable manufacturing equipment
  • Some college course work preferred
  • Ability to work 12-hour shift
  • Reliable attendance
  • Willing to work on many tasks to ensure an uninterrupted manufacturing process
  • Experience in troubleshooting, programming, and repairing robotics, PLCs, pneumatics, hydraulics, welding applications and CNC machines
  • Ability to manage multiple projects in a fast paced and changing environment
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
