Overview:

This position applies knowledge of tool and die design, construction, set up and operate machine shop equipment, fit and assemble parts for fabrication and repair of metalworking dies, manual and robotic fixtures, cutting tools, jigs, fixtures, gages and machinists hand tools.

Responsibilities:

Perform shim and sharpen activities to dies as directed by journeyman Tool & Die maker. Using manual metal working machines to cut and square material. Stamping die PM and repair. Set up Bridgeport type machines and operate. Read and interpret technical drownings including tolerancing. Knowledge of measuring tools: micrometers, calipers, tape measure, etc. Set up and operate cut off and band saw machines, surface grinders, drill press, heat treat oven, lathe.

Additional Responsibilities: Directly support Journeyman Tool & Die Markers as needed. Other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Qualifications:

Education/ Experience: Must be at least 18 years of age. Must have a High School diploma or equivalent. Must at least 6 months to 1 year experience working in a tool & die shop, using tool shop equipment.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to effectively communicate quality issues to supervisor, lead, and tool and die personnel. Ability to effectively communicate mechanical issues to maintenance personnel. Ability to record quality and production information on records. Ability to read print and using measurement tools, effectively evaluate part for conformity. Ability to read instructions for operation, gauging, or other instructions needed for job. Ability to visually compare products for defects. Ability to occasionally lift up to 2600 pounds with assistance from forklift or winches.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:While performing the essential functions of this job the employee is required to stand for extended periods of time, stand and use hands to grasp, handle or feel. Employee may on occasion be required to speak, hear, bend, stood, kneel, crouch, and walk on wet surfaces. The employee must frequently lift, move, and/or drag/push more than 40 pounds. Employee may also be requested to extended shift, work overtime, and /or weekends. Employee will work with solvents, oils and grease daily (gloves are required to protect hands and fingers ) Employee must be willing and able to abide by all safety policies.

ENVIROMENT:Duties are performed primarily at a manufacturing setting and may expose employee to laud noise levels, extreme temperatures, chemical and fumes, and moving mechanical parts. Work is completed in a non-climate-controlled plant environment and employee will have frequent interaction with managers and other employees. Standard hazards within a manufacturing plant where safety precautions and personal protective equipment must be maintained all the time.
