JOB DESCRIPTION

SUMMARY OF ROLE
The Toolmaker works to repair and maintain plastic injection multi-cavity high volume mold tools. This routinely includes disassembly and cleaning of complex molds, some of which can exceed thousands of pounds in weight and require lifting by an overhead crane to tables in the Toolroom, where intricate and often delicate or expensive components are removed for inspection, repair, and cleaning. Setups to the correct plastic product configuration are done by the Toolmaker, who works with other Toolmakers on jobs scheduled by priority. Troubleshooting of molding visual defects or dimensional issues may be done on the bench or in the presses to determine next steps and make corrections as needed. Some fabrication or repair may be done on components using toolroom equipment including use of a lathe, mill, EDM machine, grinders, etc.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Perform scheduled & emergency tooling repair, maintenance, cleaning & set-up of self-contained molds
Inspect, build & maintain tooling & part fixtures using turning, milling & grinding operations
Recommend changes to mold designs to improve life of the tooling
Assist in troubleshooting of tooling on production floor in the molding machines & on the bench
Participation in plant-wide safety efforts - safe and careful work practices always followed to reinforce a culture of safety
Support and participation in continuous improvement activities including maintaining a clean and organized workplace
Responsiveness to production, engineering and maintenance demands
Ability to work independently as well as on a team
Other responsibilities and projects as assigned.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS (bullet point or paragraph form)
High school diploma or equivalent is required
5-7 years' experience as a toolmaker
5 years production environment in injection molding or related field preferred
Ability to multi-task and prioritize work and detail orientated
Must be able to weld and have experience with machine tools
Must be able to read and interpret tooling drawings
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Must be able to sit or stand for long periods of time
Must be able to 55-60 lbs. occasionally during the day
Frequent pushing, pulling, twisting, balancing, and stooping
Must have visual acuity to perform an activity such as: operating machines such as lathes, drill presses, power saws and mills where the seeing job is at or within arm's reach
WORK ENVIRONMENT
The work environment is usually in the toolroom within a manufacturing facility with low to moderate noise level.
