Scope: General Dynamics Land Systems is a global leader in the design, development, production, support and sustainment of tracked and wheeled military equipment, specifically the Abrams Main Battle Tank and the Stryker Family of Wheeled Combat Vehicles. A toolmaker is a machinist who makes precision tools for use in manufacturing. As a toolmaker, responsibilities include reading and interpreting engineering drawings, using a clamp to secure raw materials, and cutting tools to the right shape and size using equipment like mill machines, jig grinders, and lathes.
Responsibilities
- Set up and operate CNC Horizontal Machining and Vertical Centers
- Set up and operate CNC Horizontal and Vertical Lathes
- Set up and operate CNC Mill Turn machining centers
- Effectively operate the above equipment to manufacture
- Prototype products without finished detailed drawings but with the assistance of a Manufacturing Engineer.
- Prove out new CNC programs on CNC equipment to Identify errors in Programs, Setups, Feeds and Speeds.
- Build Tooling, Load, Unload Tool Magazines
- Set up and mount Work Holding Fixtures
- Ability to read and interpret detail drawings
- Check position of Fixtures with Indicator
- Pick up location of part for program Zero
- Measure Tooling with a Pre-Setters
- Trouble shoot issues with machining processes
- Ability to train inexperienced machine operators
- Effective use of all Machine Shop Measuring Tools
- Operate conventional Bridgeport Milling Machines
- Operate conventional Lathes
- Operate Surface Grinders to tight tolerances
- Manufacture Work Holding Devices.
- Manufacture custom Gages
- Manufacture or repair machine components for maintenance
- Performs other duties as assigned. Background Requirements High school diploma or equivalent required. 5-7 Years experience in CNC programming and operation Must be a U.S. Person Work Environment: This job is performed in an office and heavy manufacturing environment.
