Summary
The hiring salary for this position is $63,604.37.
Under the direction of the Chief of Tourism & Special Events, the Event Coordinator will lead successful coordination of events hosted by the department. Duties focus on, but are not limited to, event attraction, facilitation, event coordination and logistics and may include event set-up/break-down, layout, vendor and participant communication, corporate sponsorship acquisition, budget management and task list development. Position includes work both in the office and on site at events. Assist the Chief of Tourism with research projects and other duties as assigned.
Essential Job Functions
* Lead the execution, implementation and realization of community events, large single day and multi - day signature events at privately owned facilities andcounty - owned properties.
* Steer and manage all event requirements including budget, contractual agreements, event development, fee collection and invoice processing, volunteer and vendor recruitment, logistics, county permits and sponsorships.
* Identify and facilitate appropriate department participation for county and partner agency events.
* Contribute to the division database of food truck businesses, vendors, and bands.
* Serve as a leader for the department and community for events, and facilitate opportunities related to producing, hosting and executing event with internal and external partners.
* Support the division's mission by assisting staff in their efforts to grow tourism in the county and region.
* Partner with Team Maryland, Maryland Stadium Authority, and internal staff to expand sports tourism initiatives.
* Coordinate the management of Major League Fishing Worldwide tournament contracts and expand tourism resources and quality of experience for tournament participants while leveraging appropriate agency participation.
* Prepare fiscal and economic impact analyses of signature multi-day events.
* Support staff to generate advertisements and timely social media and website content to promote community, large single day, and signature multi-day events to key target audiences.
* Research industry trends and best practices for event success and take industry trainings as appropriate.
* Represent department at regional meetings, conferences, and programming upon request.
* Assist with department general development activities and marketing initiatives as needed.
* Performs other job duties as assigned.
Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Education and Experience:
Bachelor's degree in Hospitality, Tourism, Education, Program or Event Planning or related field OR 2+ years of experience in the tourism and event industry, as an event planner or a related field.
Licenses or Certifications:
Must possess a valid driver's license.
Special Requirements/Qualifications:
Subject to work beyond the normal scheduled hours of work.
Required to work in unconventional work environments for tourism related events.
Tourism Event Certification preferred.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
* Ability to establish and maintain harmonious working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
* Demonstrate innovation and creativity when developing events and devising solutions to complex problems.
* Knowledge of PC Operations - Microsoft Office, Adobe, email and telephone etiquette
* Capability to acquire and maintain working relationships with community partners and event organizers in the DMV region.
* Ability to undertake, prioritize, and complete operational and administrative projects independently in a fast- paced work environment.
* Capacity to work with diverse groups and lead initiatives through teamwork.
* Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
* Ability to work evenings, early mornings and weekends and occasional travel as needed to accommodate scheduled events.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The work is partly sedentary with periods of moderate physical activity. Typical positions require workers to walk or stand for long periods; lift and carry up to 50 pounds; climb stairs, bend, reach, hold, grasp, and turn objects; use fingers to operate computer or typewriter keyboards; speak normally and use normal or aided vision and hearing.
