Overview: The Trade Compliance Manager, with ideally 10+ years of experience in import/export operations, will oversee and manage all international import/export activities, ensuring compliance with US and Canadian Customs, CTPAT, and other government agencies.
Must Haves / Mandatory:
- Strong understanding of HTS compliance and the ability to make independent judgments on classifications for different products.
- Advanced Excel skills (Pivot Tables, VLOOKUP's, Data Synthesis).
- Strong executive communication ability; interfaces with Supply Chain, Product Managers, Engineering, Finance, etc.
- Experience with international trade law regulations and supply chain operations.
- Must have and maintain a US Customs Broker License (LBC).
Nice to Have / Preferred:
- Hands-on product movement between China, the U.S., Mexico, and Canada.
- C-TPAT certification.
Qualifications:
- 7-10 years of experience in import/export operations.
- Proven experience in integrating import and export compliance into business operations.
- Bachelor's Degree and/or equivalent experience.
Responsibilities:
- Identify and communicate trade-related issues to senior leadership, perform risk analysis, and make recommendations based on audits and identified risks.
- Responsible for accurately classifying products to determine applicable tariffs and duties, ensuring compliance with import/export regulations. This includes independently assessing product classifications, understanding tariff exemptions, and managing the financial implications of tariffs to avoid penalties or overpayments.
- Review and update customs policies, documentation, and processes, and work with internal and external stakeholders to ensure C-TPAT security requirements are maintained.
- Classify products for US and Canada according to CBP and CBSA HTS, monitor and maintain required Canadian and U.S. Customs bonds, and manage the performance of service providers to ensure accuracy and compliance.
- Create and implement policies and procedures to ensure company-wide compliance with US and international customs regulations, shipping requirements, and trade laws.
- Develop effective export and import initiatives to increase productivity, reduce trade-related issues, and support and train staff on regulations, policies, and best practices.
- Serve as a liaison to foster relationships with government and customs entities, and manage investigations, audits, and assessments to ensure adherence to policies and compliance with import and export laws.
